Where do you go? What do you do?

I live in a small rural town. Nothing to do here. It’s hard to meet people. My life is coming into a new season. It’s changing from caregiver role to my daughter and my grandchild to having more time for myself and I am having a rough time with that. I am single no companion in my life all though I have always wanted to share my life with one. Now I find myself struggling with huge emotions, loneliness and that longing to be in a loving relationship.
I am a quiet person, I don’t approach people first to make conversation. So I end up waiting for someone to choose me. It’s been 18yrs of no companionship. And your mind starts telling you negative things that you know aren’t true. But in my current situation are shouting out very loudly.
Where does one go? How do meet that companion you have always been longing for when you are afraid to approach and make take the first step. It’s easy to start chatting on here with people why is so much hard out in public?

I'm going to be moving to a much smaller area in the coming months and have some similar concerns. Life in the dating app /social media world is very different from when I was last single and I'm not sure how well it will suit me.

There is a Planet Fitness gym in the new town that I plan to join to supplement my home gym set up .. but also as a way to get out and maybe meet new people. There are some adult education classes at the local college that interest me and might offer some chances as well.

Maybe those are some things you could consider as well.

Is there a gym close enough to you that you could join? Get a little exercise and possibly socialize a little while you’re at it. You’d feel so much better when exercising. Men may approach you there.

I live in a small town aswell. My piece of advice is that you take things slowly and don't rush into a relationship in order to build genuine trust, detect potential red flags and ensure long term compability. There are many jerks out there and you have to be careful.

Have you thought of joining a club, volunteering, being part of a church group? Not always easy if you’re a private person, but they have benefits.

@Quimliqer yes, do belong to a church and go to bible study which I enjoy. It is small church same people , married couples very rarely do we get any new people or younger people. I am looking into volunteering somewhere the place I was volunteering I had to stop going for a sad reasons.

@Gigi1425 I hope you can find the right group, but more importantly find that soul mate you seek!

Small town or big city, living without companion or partner is not easy. It’s big adjustment in life. Sometimes just having someone to talk or chat is good too.
