Were you of the Hippie era and did you participate as such?

I awoke early in the morning and turned on the telly.
The 1979 film, Hair was on and I immediately disliked what I saw.
The character, Claude, was the main player in the film?
What I saw was George, he seemed to be the main player, and I took a dislike to him from the start.
He seemed to me a bully who was manipulating Claude, and because of that Claude was a greatly diminished person.
I could not watch this film to the end as it was cringe.
I am sure I would never have joined the Hippie class if I was around at the time.

Yes to the era. Yet never apart of it. Was just a little kid when it started.

Must admit to having grown up in southern California. And not LA either. The hippie movement was a bit more prominent in LA. Yet not like San Francisco/Berkeley area. Many hippies there.

Lived in far too conservative an area.

The movie Hair wasn't really a good representation of the era either.

Seeing Woodstock scenes would be better.

I was in that era. Woodstock was '69 I was in 8th grade. I was aware the lifestyle/philosophy. I wasn't specifically a hippie but I did drop acid a couple of times.

I think you had to be there. America was changing. Hair was probably the first counterculture production of any kind to go mainstream. It didn't really have a story or plot. it was a visual and musical representation of the changing times.

No, that was before my time.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
That's okay, Gusdude. We woulda given you some of our LSD anyway.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@hunkalove I never used anything stronger than pot so I would have refused your offer. 🤪

I was of that era, but I was not a hippie. I liked sex and rock-n-roll, but no drugs.

i wasn't and im not a fan of it either

What was going on in the 60s and 70s is exactly what's taking place on the world stage today! Drugs are all there, wars and factions are all in place, we have Trump instead of Nixon, we have 30 year old incels who live in their mother's basements who don't date anyone nor ever have, instead of 30 year olds back in 1969 who dated everyone in sight, who got laid on the hoods of cars at Woodstock, but were responsible enough to run through the mud to a phone booth while half-stoned to call home to mom to let her know you made it there okay.
Hair is a favorite of mine, all George wanted was to give Claude a good time before basic and a last hurrah after basic.

How the hell was George a bully? Lol

The movie isnt great and is nothing like the musical but your critique makes zero sense.

@MethDozer
Gusman may have tried to recreate the whole experience by dropping a couple tabs of acid before he bought his popcorn and coke.... hence the reason why George became the bully.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@MethDozer The way I saw it, he was badgering Claude to do stuff he was uncomfortable with, Claude always backed down and George got his way.
A bully in my interpretation.
