How important is art in our society?

Music, design, dancing do you feel arts are important in education
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Artistic expression is one of the showpieces of the human experience.
Whatever the medium, it causes other humans to think; question accepted norms; contrast and compare; even encourages others to attempt something different in their own chosen field of artistic expression based on what inspired them.
And it's not just limited to the obvious !
A friend who is partially sighted always wanted to go to The Chelsea Flower Show and for any number of reasons it didn't happen for a long time.
When her husband eventually took her he sent me a text message with video of this day and the expression on her face as she picked up on the scent of different blooms as they were wandering around.... unlike anything I'd ever seen !

The greater our technological gains, our globalization, the more important art becomes

I'm a performing arts teacher in a primary school and it is so important for self expression and confidence. The issue is with school systems attempting to stifle creativity by fitting the arts into a small box rather than encouraging free thinking to inspire new ideas.

We teach students so many equations they will never use and yet neglect their social and emotional development so they end up having lower resilience in life

I think it's extremely important. Society is becoming dull, lifeless and monotonous.

Expression of self has always been important to me, even if it's not technically art.

Aside from that, my art classes in elementary school helped me get through a difficult childhood.

Literally why else would I bother doing anything. If art isn't important to someone then I know to avoid them. It's absolutely crucial.
deadgerbil · 22-25
Pretty important. Design covers so much stuff that has so many practical applications that benefit from someone being artistically skilled in their design

I think the arts are more helpful to society when they’re integrated into all classes than compartmentalized to a single class. I feel this early modeling of the arts’ place in our world results in less overall creativity in our day to day lives and lumps the arts into a ‘ leisure if I have time for’ level of priority. ‘Leisure arts’ are good for a person ‘s mental health, which cumulatively is good for a society, but doesn’t bring the arts naturally into the structure of society (especially the economy/how people can make a viable living).

Art is the reflection of the society that only a few understand and accept.

It's saddens me when I see an Artist with great skills barely making a living. Not every Artist gets to relish fame.

Evolution of Man started with Art.
SoLeRiMix · 31-35, M
@RedBaron Yes! Early Man did use drawings to communicate. Now, drawing is a form of art. Right?
RedBaron · M
@SoLeRiMix All I said was that you should say Humanity instead of Man.
SoLeRiMix · 31-35, M
@RedBaron Ok! Humanity! Humanity evolved only after man evolved. Happy Now! Enjoy the weekend!😇

I, in my own humble opinion, believe art to be important. Art is self-expression and a means of conveying ideas.

We are basically creative creatures and we need to invent constantly for our psychological well being. Art helps us in manifesting our thoughts and keeps our mind engaged. Learning anything is education but I suppose you mean formal education.. Art can be introduced for any subject, for instance there is art of writing and drawing for science language etc. There is art in solving a maths problem.

So Yes. Art is important in education.

Oh I love dancing
Art as a form of expression is what makes us feel, what makes us human…it is absolutely vital.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Apparently, it's very important until you're supposed to pay the artist. 😅
Dethmoore · 31-35, M
Important as in entertainment. Important like science of math? No way.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
I think they’re very therapeutic and important in education to bring balance.
Convivial · 26-30, F
If you enjoy working and sleeping, they're not.

If you want to live though ...
antonioioio · 70-79, M
You couldn't live without it
Especially music and dancing ❤️
carnallcpl · 26-30, C
Art is probably the only important thing in society
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
Where I live it has a huge space in the community and I love that.
rrraksamam · 31-35, M
It's great as a hobby; career? Not so much
Alyosha · 31-35, M

Bumbles · 51-55, M
