Yes. I see a Bible that is tattered and well worn, I know the owner is definitely utilising the Good Book.

Must admit, that is what peaks my attention if the author is new to me.
Once I know the author it doesn't matter what their books look like.

If they can’t create an enticing book cover then how original could the work be?

Nah two contradictory statements can equally be true. It's sometimes not true you can judge a book by its cover, I've had people tell me how I feel and how I am which is the polar opposite of how I felt. People judge as to how they are sometimes, not how someone else is. If you are a liar, you'll think that everyone else also lies.

However, it's also equally true that it doesn't take a lot to see warning flags of someone and that sometimes you do need to believe what you see literally and to not gaslight yourself when something is amiss.

When people say "don't judge a book by it's cover," my question often is..."so are you saying this MIGHT be a children's book?"

I don't wanna judge you, I prefer to read you rather than judge your cover and put it back on the shelf.
