Just received a text.

“Your 2017 Jeep Renegade file is flagged inactive and set to close. Call CoverageX at 1-833-400-5950.

Reply STOP to opt out.”

Golly gee…could that be caused by the fact that I never OWNED a Jeep Renegade?

If you’re going to scam, at least don’t suck at it. You are giving me second-hand embarrassment.

I'm guessing you live in a location that often buys jeeps, and bulk sending texts is almost zero cost. It's illegal to send such texts, and probably a pain to report it.

Businesses must get documented, affirmative permission before sending promotional or marketing SMS/MMS messages. A pre-checked box on a website form or a general email signup does not count.

Oh, and lookee here
Statutory damages range from $500 to $1,500 per illegal text message, and non-compliant companies often face multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuits.

I love when I get a text from the DMV notifying me that my license will be suspended tomorrow if I don’t pay my toll road fine today, and the sending number is from a foreign country 😂

@ineedadrink I haven’t driven for close to ten years now. If they start pursuing unpaid tickets or tolls ten years back, they’ll just have to track me down.

But it’s nice they’re co-parenting.
