Reddit Enshittification [Problem Solved, Thanks to @GoFish!]

I read some subreddits occasionally, such as "r/Lovecraft/" (I'm a big fan), "r/math/", "r/Physics", but not on my iPhone anymore. Not since yesterday or so, because the site forces me to install their "app" on my phone, only to be able to read. I can't scroll down any reddit page anymore in my pre-installed iPhone web browser. 😒

That's what some call "enshittification", and rightly so. Ok reddit, from now on I'm not going to open any subreddit on my iPhone, and I'll read reddit posts on my laptop, or not at all. Pardon my French, but – f*ck you! 🤬

@helenS I love the way you think. I don`t use my phone for anything internet related. It spend most of it`s time sitting on the table.

@samueltyler2 Fair enough, but I need Linux machines that can print and scan documents, which is why I have two MacBooks. And then I purchased an iPhone because it works nicely with my laptops. And a couple of weeks ago I bought those airPods because they work nicely with my iPhone. I'm trapped in their ecosystem...

Check your app store. There may be an app that let's you view Reddit posts without installing the Reddit app. I use Redreader on Android.

@SumKindaMunster Thank you – I just had to check "Request Desktop Website" on my iPhone (Safari settings), and I was done. That tip came from user @GoFish.

Omg, yes. This is one of my biggest irritations! I try not to install apps unless I absolutely need them. I like my browser. But so many sites now force you to install their app. 🙄

@helenS welcome ☺ i had the same problem with fb trying to force me to get their messenger awhile back holding my messages hostage.. so annoying.. then they updated the messenger to force AI programming on me which i don't appreciate 😳

@jshm2 Hey my "shitty" iPhone is from 2020, and it's still running on the lastest system software, and why would I buy another phone while my old one is still working nicely?

They tried to do that to me on my Android phone. So I went to browser settings, all sites, and deleted all cookies from reddit. Presto-chango, reddit forgot how many times per day I was visiting, and treated me as new fresh meat to be tenderized!!!
