losing experience project was like burning books

i feel there were sooo many writings there..sooo many connections made..same with myspace..i lost 400-odd blogs when they went down. i have since learned to back my stuff up more, but i still think these social media sites need to recognize their responsibility a lil more and at least give notice. am i trippin?

It wasn't a social media site. (MySpace wasn't either)
It was around before the phrase was coined.

The concept was for users to share the life experiences that mattered to them, and to write stories about their personal experience with those life events, in order to connect with other users who could empathize with them, and provide support based on their shared backgrounds.

Translation:
Collect stories from the users of the site to sell books.

@minxy another interesting take. ❤️

I think I killed experience project. I had like so many tips I dropped for the police over sexual predators cause I was underage that I'm sure they got a lot of pressure over that.

And it went under not long after

I think Armen Berjikly had enough of EP which had started out as a MS support site...I told them to send my "profile" and not keep it online..they did neither😡

@bookerdana same!
bookerdana · M
@foldedunfolding Luckily I had transferred a select few to e mail
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@bookerdana same again..i spent a whole day trying to capture what i could
I really don't understand why people ate still longing for EP. We are 7 years down the road now. If we got EP back now, we would laugh about it, nagging the bot Ally. I was there since 2009, but we had to move on.
@foldedunfolding You still have contact with her?
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Thewhazzupdude no sorry
@foldedunfolding She was so funny and sometimes serious
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
I lost wonderful stuff with Bleedinglovelust before she went off and came back as someone else, before she left completely. I wish I had some of the stuff she wrote and the pictures she sent. It all vanished like in a puff of smoke like an art gallery burned to the ground
EP did give notice though and gave users almost a year to download their content.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@NerdyPotato nahh definitely not a year, mate. but they told us to send them a request to DL our stuff..then never responded or got back to us
@foldedunfolding I'm pretty sure I did get a reply. 🤔 I deleted the package later though. Maybe that was just because I was fast enough, but I thought they offered that option for a year. But then again, they often ignored all kinds of requests, so I'm not surprised they didn't get back to everyone.
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Didn't they give a notice to download one's profile before it shut down?
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@deadgerbil i think EP gave like a week yes..myspace..nada
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@deadgerbil also..it wouldnt download
Bleak · 36-40, F
So relatable.

I lost so much of my stuff.
assemblingaknob · 31-35, F
Yes. some of my cringiest posts on there. So relieved it's gone. I didn't export a single thing lol
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F

I feel it's true what you say.

Eventually all sites turn sour.
There are ones I wish were still around but I know ultimately they had run their course.

I was barely on EP so I do not know much about it.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I was given a notice when Deviantart was changing and it didn't help because my focus was on EP or SW. 😕 I should have taken it more seriously then.
Yup. And Yahoo answers showed the manipulation of the public discourse during the 2016 election by the Dems in real time. Oh well! The truth is what the ownership present to you.
Somexyz · 36-40
EP gave a notice to save your content prior to shutting down. I saved it.
ABCDEF7 · M
Why you were not able to get download of your content in XML format?
Yeah, It is sad... i had so many writings there. I don't think there is anything on the net that is even close to EP. In the old days we could say that things get better with age. (Like a fine wine). But now we say things get worse with age. (Like the smell of a pile of crap).

They got screwed over by a federal agency demanding files that they didn't have time or interest in providing so they took the alternative....
Renaci · 36-40
Thing is the internet in general has gotten worse. I noticed that with the invention of the iphone bringing the internet to a broader range of people. But it also brought it down to the lowest common denominator.
Even if EP and MySpace came back it would be flooded with the absolute worst of humanity. Because the internet is a breeding/feeding ground for the worst of humanity. Trolls, sadists and psychopaths learned that they can use it to feed their evil so they flood everything. A good site/app has about a 5 year lifespan before trolls bring it to it's knees. So I'll just remember MySpace and EP as they were. It's nostalgic.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Renaci you have a mega point. i think the whole thing is akin to the tower of babel from the Bible..God kiiinda warned us abt such things ha
Renaci · 36-40
@foldedunfolding I'm all in favor of world spanning projects. But they don't work because humans can't get along long enough. Like if I remember correctly the biggest thing humanity has worked on was the Great Wall of China. I think it was worked on off and on for around a thousand years.
I think that's why I like sci-fi so much. It shows the potential of humanity. Not always it's reality. Plus much sci-fi has an optimistic slant which def counteracts my pessimism. Lol Plus pretty eye candy🥴
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@Renaci wow! Good point you make.
well put!
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
They did give plenty of warning that they were shutting down and warning people to backup their posts.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Musicman i saved a lot of mine manually, but they didnt respond when i asked them to transfer the files like they said they would
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@foldedunfolding Yeah, SW claimed we could transfer our stuff to here, but no one was able to.
