Today I'll visit Chester because I have a very specific bit of shopping to do and it's the nearest place i can do it.

Pictures will have to wait. Using the WiFi from the the bar next door and it keeps dropping out and forgetting the credentials.

After my little bit of shopping I visited the Grosvenor Museum which has some nice displays of Roman Chester as well as other periods and a couple of galleries of new art.

Before leaving I headed for the loo. On the way down the stairs to the basement where the gents is located I encountered a pair of quite fit looking maintenance men coming up. The one in the lead said something I didn't catch, then repeated it saying "The ladies is the other way, up the stairs."

I didn't have my sunglasses on and he was below me on the stairs looking slightly up at me so my hat wasn't hiding my face. Is it just my imagination or is it really the case that men can't tell? I'm pretty confident that every woman who looks straight at me from conversation distance is never in any doubt that I'm not a genetic girl.

@22Michelle Me, tallish? In my bare feet I'm about 1.7 m tall (5' 7") perhaps a centimetre taller if make an extra effort to stand up straight, boobs out, shoulders back. :-)

Is that tall for a woman in the UK, it certainly doesn't seem to be in Norway? After nearly forty years in Norway I've got used to pretty much everyone being taller than me. But it is true that I generally feel taller when I'm in the UK.

@ninalanyon For a British woman that's getting on to being tall. Maybe it's your build that makes you look taller than you are.

After the coffee and cake I headed back towards my car on the way I noticed a slightly unusual chip shop called Chipp'd

Apparently this is Dutch style chips. they have them part cooked and then throw them back in the fryer to order. I had garlic mayonnaise with mine. the mayonnaise sits in the cup at the top above the chips. They were good but I think there should have been fewer chips that were too short to dip without getting mayonnaise on my fingers.

I'm a week early for Chester Pride so I'll miss that.

There is a Pride event tomorrow in Stafford which is not far away but it's more of a festival style with an entry fee rather than a parade.

@ninalanyon Yes we have similar events about pride. I have never been to one in person
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@turbineman40 You should go. If they are anything like the ones I have been to here you will quickly fall into conversation with someone. I had long conversations with two people in the parade today and exchanged compliments with several others. It's delightful to simply be in such a big group of people all being happy.

@ninalanyon I will have to try this out

Something I like about the old museums is that they are often housed in buildings that are interesting in themselves.

Here is the floor in front of the statue of the Roman soldier

Mosaic panels at the bottom of the stairs

The stairs up from the ground floor

Looking down from the first floor

A lovely stained glass window

In the High Coffee Bar in Chester having a mocha and a very pleasant honey cake made of nearly a dozen layers of sponge cake, cream, and honey.

Some of the Roman things in the museum.

The Roman Fortress. A curious thing because it is not a picture but a sort of model. But unlike many models it is not designed to be viewed perpendicularly. If you do you can see that the barracks are not rectangular even though the real things certainly were.

The first thing you see when entering the museum

A memorial to a Roman optio

And here is a modern copy meant to be what it would have looked like close to two thousand years ago

Today's outfit is a mini skirt made more mini by folding the waistband over twice.
