I've heard so many horrible things about all of the shots for blood sugar.
I'm so sorry for you.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Kygirl for me I don't see where it's helpful it really didn't change my numbers very much, I didn't lose weight, and I've been so sick that it's been hard to exercise.
If I kept taking it the only way I would have lost weight is because I starved myself because I couldn't eat.
Thanks for your concern, very much appreciated.

I'm type 2 and only do fast and slow insulin now. I started out with metformin but got interested in herbal treatment from a book called reversing diabetes. Well it worked for about a year and a half then I had to keep increasing dosages to a point I determined it wasn't good for my health. It's long story how I got where I am and I wouldn't recommend my diet to anyone diabetic but I'm keeping my A1C controlled with the insulin. The only downfall for all US diabetics is that Levemir is no longer available here. It is superior to all it's replacements. My slow acting insulin is now Lantus which I have to use triple the dose to get the same control.

@Justmeraeagain Levemir is no longer available in the US because of manufacturing problems and demand issues.
Before regaining control of my blood sugar levels I was all over the place and my A1C was over 12 however I never had a ketosis incident. I don't know why some are more suseptable then others. It might be what's causing the diabetes. We are all different and my wasn't traditional onset. It was caused by chemo damaging my pancreas. It literally came about over a weeks time 20 years ago.
I don't know why your doctor doesn't stick with insulin. I'm not going to be a guinea pig for these new drugs they have coming out for multiple uses. All of them have questionable side effects.
Metformin is over used as well. It has its own long term use negatives.

@Gibbon I'm not one to just do as doctor says anymore,I push back if I think it's in my best interest
I'm sorry all of that happened to you.

So many of the medications they prescribe have terrible side effects. I hope your physicians can find one that is right for you!
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@LadyBronte I think it's going to depend on what I get diagnosed with or confirmed as. For diabetes 1 you don't take pills you just take insulin.
Diabetes 2 you can take insulin and pills or just pills.
Diabetes 1 is when the pancreas makes little to no insulin so you have to give yourself insulin and diabetes 2 your body is making some insulin, but your body doesn't know how to use it.
If you become insulin resistant sometimes you will need insulin.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Justmeraeagain Yes. I'm an RN and have taken care of people who are both insulin dependent and those who take oral medications. Unfortunately, it can often be trial and error to find an effective, tolerable medication. Hopefully you'll find something right away after your diagnosis. Wishing you luck!

@LadyBronte Thank you and maybe, I can ask you questions from time to time if your okay with that?
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
I don't know if they've given you this advice with your meds but if they haven't it might be worth trying.

@AntisocialTroll I just don't find the benefits worth the misery

Have your Dr tried oral medication like Jardiance? They are effective too. Just you have to take every day.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
[@Nick1 Jardiance is what contributed to my dka.
I have taken probably every oral medication you can for diabetes.
In about 3 weeks they're trying to determine whether I have been misdiagnosed and I'm really type one

Im so sorry that you are going through that. Please feel better soon 🧡
