Nina's Blog - Friday 3rd May 2024

I occasionally look at The Guardian to see what's happening in the world.

Just now I came across this from Ben Carson who might be US vice president if Trump is elected.:
“What is needed is legislation that guarantees the right to life for all American citizens, including those still in the womb. Therefore, we must be boldly vocal about saving our fellow human beings through the legislative process. They are counting on us!”
https://www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/may/03/ben-carson-trump-running-mate-book-national-abortion-ban

Now, just for a moment ignore the ant-abortion part and concentrate instead on
legislation that guarantees the right to life for all American citizens, including those still in the womb.
Is an unborn a citizen? What are the temporal limits on citizenship and personhood?

Fir those pro life fanatics the foetus must be protected. Once born though they can die in an alley anytime.

Isn't Ben Carson as vice president kind of like someone saying that he's not racist because he has a black friend?

I'd rather see Ben Carson as president than Donald Trump.

@Lostpoet I have no idea who he is or what he stands for. I was just struck by the curious idea of protecting the rights of citizens while in the womb.

@ninalanyon It is interesting and I don't vote on woman Issues. I hate seeing abortions, but I also can't imagine forcing a woman to give birth under penalty of the law.
