I’m certain now, if I had any previous doubts…

When someone has "Patriot" as part of their username, they’re likely part of the racist right. And it’s not a question of if they’re going to say something ugly—simply when.

Instant block, going forward. 😳
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Patriot = I hate all non Americans and non WASPS
I have a similar feeling for those who have flags on user pic.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I find it sad that that word has been hijacked by people who stand for the very things I consider unpatriotic.
Piper · 61-69, F
I've noticed that being the case, too, more often than. It's made me both angry and sad, most especially when they cast aspersions on veterans simply because they are Democrats or liberal-leaning, or are not Republican...conservative enough to suit them.

For sure, most of those who loudly fly the "patriot 'flag'", have a way different idea of what it means, than many of us who care just as much about their...our country.
@Piper Exactly.
helenS · 36-40, F
It's rather sad that "patriot" is used today as a self-description of people who hate their country.
@helenS And here, it’s not really new, just returned. I remember Mad Magazine describing a patriot as:
"Someone who loves his country, while hating 75% of the people in it !" 😳
Like Trump hijacking a protest about Police Brutality and turning it into disrespect for the flag the Extreme Right have hijacked the word Patriot and ironically enough they hijacked the flag. They hijacked the flag and are using it to further their agenda.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
As is public I´m not a citizen of USA and neither live there.
And in other political cultures patriotism do not have the same meaning as it haves in USA.
Here and in other countries the word is rarely if ever asociated with right wing politics and frecuently the opposite is true.
So.......my gut reflexes and the ones shaped by other experiences / culture may not work well "there" and I hesitate to act on them without reading specific views form each user.

But I´m with you in fierclely defending people, all of them, their freedoms and social rights, against racism, xenophobia, prejudices and all that dangerous garbage.
SW-User
Did you figure this out the hard way or are you being proactive?
@SW-User I kind of knew, but people here say, "give the benefit of doubt !" So in this instance, this atmosphere, no more doubts.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard they normally show who they really are quite quickly
@SW-User Very true.
deadgerbil · 26-30
It's a pretty safe bet that they'll express some right wing bs
deadgerbil · 26-30
@bijouxbroussard this is the guy that comes to mind lol

@deadgerbil Absolutely.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."--Samuel Johnson.

And Trump is the greatest patriot ever! And a true Christian!
bookerdana · M
Day-um..just as I was going to change my username to BookerPatriot..(conservidroid slayer) 🤷‍♀️
Ynotisay · M
It's a safe assumption. If you see a flag you can pretty much make the leap as well.
11knaves11 · 41-45, M
I appreciate your vision, I agree "Patriotic" should be respected by it's true definition. Problem is conflict generates money....money generates power and absolute power corrupts absolutely...🫡 everyone stay safe, stay loved, but if need be..stay dangerous
@11knaves11 But the people who have it as their username (I have found) don’t respect its true definition. They see themselves as "patriots" who supposedly love the U.S.—while hating most of those in it. And they are rich in hatred, but little else.
11knaves11 · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard because essentially they will say their grandparents lost their farms....no....they lost the ability to minimally pay for the farm to be worked. I've heard it on many planes and scopes. I brushed with many individuals throughout my lifetime. It may sound odd but I have more respect for the "Patriot" that will disrespect me to my face than the one that does it only in safe situations....it's unfortunate but it's like the notion of 1 day. Everyone with a car not drive....see how high gas would stay for any durations. I've become a reclose because honestly I don't think society and I mesh well together. However, with your messages and the other positive individuals here...I'm offered hope still🫡again Thank You

Some usernames tell you all you need to know.
Convivial · 26-30, F
When you sit back and look at it dispassionately, there's not a lot of difference between them and the Spanish inquisition. Both are about pushing their view, making it the one orthodox view and eliminating those who don't agree.

Just my thoughts
@Convivial I think you’re right. Conservatism is all about tradition and orthodoxy, "the way it’s always been" whether it worked or not. No room for new perspectives or even new information.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard exactly... If you're not with me, etc... No room for compromise,. Or thinking lol
HannahSky · F
Sad. It used to stand for something good. Any account with patriot, the flag or any other overblown political symbol is a red flag 🚩
I either have them blocked or don't bother. Too vitriol.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
100%

And people with cars, flags, or torso shots for their PFP are on thin ice lol
Iwantyourhotwife · 22-25
Scuze me ma'am

I reckon you oughta understand that Patriotism ain't the same as racistic racism

I'll have you know that what yer talkin bout are they kay kay kay members and we don't wear no HWAYT hoods. We believe in Murica with no thugs. Ain't nuthin wrong with that

AMEN
@Iwantyourhotwife Too often it comes in the same package.
Iwantyourhotwife · 22-25
@bijouxbroussard is this the package?
@Iwantyourhotwife It’s more about what they say than how they look.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
It’s a red flag for a red hat, same with US flags unfortunately.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
DDonde · 31-35, M
I'm a patriot and I believe in this country. I don't go around calling myself a patriot as a primary part of my identity. I don' t harass others solely because they have a different political outlook than me. These people pervert the word and ride it like a horse they haven't earned.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Pretty much so. It's like a not-so-secret code word for the extreme rightists.
Dino11 · M
Don’t You wish You could do that I Real Life?
@Dino11 The funny thing is, I rarely encounter them in real life anymore.
MethDozer · M
The word has been hijacked. If you question or disagree with anything status quo you're unpatriotic to these people. They are the only true patriots. They are "the people". They are "the Americans". You or anyone else who questions anything about the history or system you are now "them".

They've even gone as far as hijacking the the term revolution and revolutionary. They're so ignorant and delusional they actually believe they are revolutionaries in a "revolution" to maintain the old guard and status quo. The exact opposite of what a revolution entails.

The whole basis of todays conservatism is that of being scared shitless of everything. Everyone. Everywhere. They claim to be these brave souls scared of nothing. Except other people, other narionalities. Other ideas. Change. Losing their weapons. Books, disenfranchised groups, unions, actual freedom, Etc. The only thing they don't shit their pants in fear of is more militray, more police, and more protection for big buisiness.
@MethDozer Agreed !
MethDozer · M
@bijouxbroussard McCarthyism is alive and stronger than ever.
Renaci · 36-40
Also when they have an American flag. And 90 percent of the time if they have a vehicle as their pfp.
