Okay I get it now...

So....if you're to discuss certain topics here, you have to be armed with evidence to prove your opinions/thoughts. Otherwise, according to some others here (particularly the far left or far right) your opinions and views are not valid 馃

Yes that does read as ridiculously as it sounds.
This appears to be SW logic though 馃し

The situation is actually worse than you've described it.

Even if you provide evidence from credible sources, some people will refuse to accept it because it's not what they want to believe. They'll deride your sources as "fake news" or too biased to be of any value. Trying to have a discussion with people like this is a complete waste of time.
MeowsoliniReturns51-55, F
@Rutterman That is exactly what happens. If it doesn't fit their world view, no matter if it's right in their face, it's "fake news. " I don't even bother anymore.
Lanie7841-45, F
@Rutterman yep, the most sensible reply 馃憤

When discussing topics you should be able to back up why you believe something and when being called out for lying (like your example what supposedly happens in schools) you would need to be able to back claims up otherwise it's an opinion based on lies and false information.

Of course when someone says they don't like tea or something that's a pure subjective thing but when discussing society, politics, medicine... facts and data are important.

Imagine people going around lying and then excusing it with it being just an "opinion".
Why you believe something matters too.

GloomyF
@AtticEscapee You can "馃う" all you want.

Let's take your braindead post where you accused people of defending pedophelia. When checking out the actual post we can verify that people had other reasons for opposing the death penalty therefore your "opinion" was based on a lie.
Really80-89, M
@Gloomy
Like climate change denial is an opinion but it is objectively wrong.
It is perfectly reasonable to ask someone how they have arrived at an expressed opinion. If they can quote verifiable or credible sources that's helpful, but even without those, there's nothing wrong with asking for their reasoning and discussing it.

However it's worth noting that a single instance or opinion is not valid justification for a sweeping generalization.

There are a lot of people who feel threatened when they perceive their world view being challenged. This fear manifests itself as hostility and tempers start to rise. These sort of people tend to be very slow at learning new things.

What Mr. Rutter said.

Huh? So your complaint here is that people won't believe you if you don't back your claim with evidence?

If you hadn't noticed that's how society works. Science, courts, business boards, economy, medicine, even politics (until recently).. all revolving around presenting evidence.
Tetsuya51-55, M
@Elessar that's not how SW works
Only in making sweeping generalizations. Opinion or not, if what鈥檚 said is factually incorrect that must count for something.
CestManan46-50, F
Oh people are always asking for sources. Of course in any debate one can find "evidence" supporting either side.

I mean sweet Jesus's scrotum, people get on here and act like it is some kind of legal battle and "evidence" is needed for everything.

It's like they forget that we are all here just to entertain each other whether we agree or not on certain thngs.

Too bad the pandemic is not still going, someone could get on here and claim that LGBT groups are against covid vaccinations, OH IMAGINE what would hit the fan!

Asking for evidence, cussing, shouting, graphs, statistics, I mean it would be THE biggest sh*t show in SW history 馃ぃ
Lanie7841-45, F
@CestManan Haha actually you're alright. You tell it how it is 馃憤
CestManan46-50, F
@Lanie78 Yeah I do not take this place real serious. I run my mouth a lot and hopefully people will insult me back sometimes.

When I first got here there was one guy that we cussed each other out and argued a lot but then one day it happened - we buried the hatchet and became friends.
justanothername51-55, M
That applies when discussing politics. It鈥檚 designed to weed out the baseless conspiracy comments.
AtticEscapeeF
Or they accuse you of being an "alt account". 馃槀
Lanie7841-45, F
@AtticEscapee Yep apparently I'm @Torsten 馃槀
Yup, pretty much 馃槀

That one boob, that is all he knows. His rebuttal to everything true is "source?". 馃ぃ Then when you give it to him he accuses bias.
BohemianBooM
You have to be armed with evidence to prove your claims about facts, not opinions.
