Okay I get it now...

So....if you're to discuss certain topics here, you have to be armed with evidence to prove your opinions/thoughts. Otherwise, according to some others here (particularly the far left or far right) your opinions and views are not valid 🤔

Yes that does read as ridiculously as it sounds.
This appears to be SW logic though 🤷

When discussing topics you should be able to back up why you believe something and when being called out for lying (like your example what supposedly happens in schools) you would need to be able to back claims up otherwise it's an opinion based on lies and false information.

Of course when someone says they don't like tea or something that's a pure subjective thing but when discussing society, politics, medicine... facts and data are important.

Imagine people going around lying and then excusing it with it being just an "opinion".
Why you believe something matters too.

oh the irony

that is about 90% of the posts in "Politics"

@Tetsuya SW is a special place for typical conservatives to fearmonger and US politics in general has turned into a shitshow with conservatives lying and being far away from reality.
@Gloomy Source?

@AtticEscapee Would need to look at certain cases but for example the anti trans posts that claim kids are being indoctrinated in schools or that there are surgeries on minors, etc...

So what you said there was an opinion, correct? Earlier you also said
Imagine people going around lying and then excusing it with it being just an "opinion".
😉

@AtticEscapee What I said is an opinion which I can back up. There is plenty of information that contradicts some right wing posts.

Like climate change denial is an opinion but it is objectively wrong.
@Gloomy But you did not back it up with a source or a link, even when I asked you to.

This is nothing personal. Lack of self awareness applies to nearly ALL social media dwellers. I just happened upon your comment. ✌🏿

Because it was way too broad if you'd like me to I could provide an example and add sources.
@Gloomy Whether I would like you to or not is moot. Whether you do NOW or not is moot.
The truth is, at the time you commented, you did not - so what you said at the time was just an "opinion based on lies and false information". 😬

@AtticEscapee No, ones opinion doesn't necessarily have to be immediately be expressed in combination with sources or well outlined reasons but when questioned everyone should be able to provide a well thoughtout reason and/or sources that prove whether the framework and background information is even legit.

Example someone claims there is no climate change, obviously people will question this opinion since it goes against reality, then the person making the initial claim would need to provide reason and sources to explain why they hold this belief
@Gloomy 🤦🏿

@AtticEscapee You can "🤦" all you want.

Let's take your braindead post where you accused people of defending pedophelia. When checking out the actual post we can verify that people had other reasons for opposing the death penalty therefore your "opinion" was based on a lie.

@Gloomy
Like climate change denial is an opinion but it is objectively wrong.
It is perfectly reasonable to ask someone how they have arrived at an expressed opinion. If they can quote verifiable or credible sources that's helpful, but even without those, there's nothing wrong with asking for their reasoning and discussing it.

However it's worth noting that a single instance or opinion is not valid justification for a sweeping generalization.
