How do you meet people in a real small town?

there aren't really any clubs or anything to join. everything is gone. there is a lot of woods, i tried looking in there but even the bees rejected me.
and trying to enter groups of people as a new person gets harder as you get older cause older people already got their groups and there doesn't seem to be many vacancies.
online is always there, but i'm still figuring that out.

does anyone have any small town tips?

Start your own group. Put up posters on community notice boards, in libraries, post offices, etc. Join local groups in Facebook and find out if anyone there is interested.

I'm from a place like that. I managed to make a few friends through my sister who's always been super social.

After she had kids, however, she's withdrawn. I'm an introvert, and without my sis pushing me out of my comfort zone, I don't see people anymore either.

Go for walks and wave at everyone. First you’ll get the busybodies approaching you to talk shit and then people will start to get used to you,

Smile and say hello to everyone. And go to church. And marry a wealthy widow who is a secret lesbian. And take up stamp collecting.

I'm a very small town mountain person and I think it's one of the things that comes with the territory. You give up some stuff to gain something different. I would say that local groups are probably your best bet. Or maybe forge a relationship with a neighbor that's more than waving when they drive by. But I think you hit on one of the things that some don't consider when they have a desire to "get away from it all." It's not right for everyone. But very right for others. Good luck.

games, football, basketball etc, generally the entire county shows up and their choices are just as limited as yours, should be VERY easy to find someone in a few mins at town events.

wait second thought, what do You consider small town...??

Only place in my very small town to meet anyone is at a bar. And I don't drink so here I am still alone.

Plus I live very far in the country so it's even harder.
After a while you dont care anymore
I drink at home, i never liked the nightclub/ bar scene

I hate small towns for this very reason alone, nothing to do and the residents are suspicious of you, never allowing you to fit in. The best thing to do is to move to the closest city.

@NativePortlander1970 Someone told me back in the 80’s the way to make friends in small towns in Oklahoma is to have something in common with them. When they find out you have something in common with them then they’ll warm up to you.
