I can't stand seeing tourists in my area

Nothing personal with them, it's not their fault for ending up here, but only foreigners I want are refugees and immigrants. Maybe some international students and volunteers too, depends. Tourists just don't fit this place.

Ugh yeah. My quaint little mountain town has turned into a tourist trap over the last couple decades. It's painful to see generations of lifelong residents being priced out of the only homes they've ever known to accommodate out of state property investors.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@HannibalAteMeOut it's a real thing. We have even had to close some natural areas because over tourism was harming the environment so badly there. Fucking social media influencers would flock to some little known parks and they went viral. Now none of us can have nice things.

@SwampFlower that's so bad 😬
MethDozer · M
@SwampFlower that's why as a "townie" you have to be hostile and beat their ass from time to time. Toutist aren't so bad if you keep them in check and in their lane.

Hey sweetie... I used to hate tourists too and what tourism does to my island and the locals... Not only it robs them their homes but it puts them in a ridiculous money hunt...

But now that I kind of experience and see for myself how traveling can cure racism, discrimination and separation... It's truly amazing to see the Afghans next to the Germans next to the Americans next to the Thais next to the Nepali... Under different circumstances these people would behave and obey under different laws. But when they meet all together as tourists, the priorities list kind of changes, and firstly they realise they are all humans and then come the rest...

So it's not a win win situation , but it has certain positives 🤗
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@being travelling is amazing and I wish everybody to experience it but some places really suffer from overtourism, they should know they can't take them all at a time because it creates problems to the local population and also the nature. Meanwhile there are places that aren't popular enough and nobody wants to visit and there are so many misconceptions about them. It's like places going in and out of fashion. I like seeing people coming together from all around but not excessive things.

Remember how surreal it was in 2020, when all the major touristic cities emptied out?

@MethDozer Bear in mind, it was Wuhan level bad here,we literally had tents out of the hospitals because not even the halls or corridors had any more room left for patients. In some towns virtually everyone had at least one relative or friend either hospitalized or dying, or even dying at home if you were in Lombardy; there wasn't much resistance to the lockdown until relatively late (end of April / May), at least here in the north.
MethDozer · M
@Elessar I get that, along with rypically being more densly populated in a lot of areas.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@MethDozer And having a much older population, especially those first-hit towns that had numbers dramatically worse than even packed metropolises
deadgerbil · 26-30
Unfortunately, tourists bring in the big bucks so there's no incentive to cater to refugees etc.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@deadgerbil yep even to working people, there are many cases of teachers who have to move to some island to teach the local kids at schools there but can't find an apartment at a logical price because the tourist season lasts until the end of October. It's absurd the people from the islands are more welcoming to tourisrs than to the teachers of their own kids or to the doctors that go there to work for them.

@HannibalAteMeOut That’s the sad reality. Over tourism leaves local in a money-hunger that they would sell their souls just to get easy buck. Depending on the demand, you’ll see some illegal shit start building up.

@checkoutanytime how did my post make you think of Burlington?
@HannibalAteMeOut bc locals dispise the city folks, that have wrecked it. Its the closest place i can relate to in accordance to your post.

YOU JUST HATIN ON MY BERMUDA SHORTS 😠
SW-User
This could be a problem

I have a cruise I'm thinking of booking

Athens
Thessaloniki
Mykonos
Ephesus
Rhodes
Santorini
Hydra

Will I not be welcome at these places ?
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@SW-User I think you don't get what I'm saying. Nobody's going to tell you to not go on a cruise. As a tourist you don't even know which places you are welcome to or not. You just find the things that interest you and the prices that are in your budget and that's all. But in specific areas it's unusual to see tourists and when some people take advantage of it and gentrify the area, life for locals becomes more difficult.
