If you walk into the thrift shop with 20 bucks, what are you walking out with ??

Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
Almost anything. I love thrift stores. I got into the habit when I was in college when I had no money, but as I get more mature I have come to appreciate that I don't always have to have brand new. Most people that visit my home would never realize some of the things there came from thrift and estate sales. I have a table in my hall that I redid myself. I paid $25 for it. It is an Ethan Allen piece that I gave new life. I have an armoire in my nephew's room that I paid $40 USD for. I was offered much more. I buy paintings, with unique frames and redo those as well. I usually donate the paintings back if they are on canvas and only keep the frames for my art. I buy clothing sometimes ... pyrex vintage stuff.... old stationery... etc.

@Fungirlmmm vintage items can add a lot of charm to a home.

Depends on what I need at the time. Lately have been finding a lot of bargains at discount store. I usually go on $1 or 50 cent days, sometimes on $2 Mondays. Can get a couple bags of good items for that much on $1 or 50 cent days

It varies. I used to buy sandwich bags filled with votive candles when I was into candles. I could get a whole bag for 50 cents. Sometimes I would find a designer bag, under lock and key, or a Christmas pin for my coat. I particularly like to look for kitchen items that I've never splurged on...for example, I found a cheesecake pan, a pie pan with a plastic snap on lid, a replacement for a 9 x 9 glass casserole dish that wasn't returned to me for a few years.

I get very excited when my church is giving away children's books, and I find them with the price tags still on, in new condition.

Nothing because bucks ($) aren’t legal tender here 😂😂
CestManan · 46-50, F
Typically four new pieces of clothing. Or 20 VHS copies of that movie called speed. Or the entire Fifty Shades of Gray and Twilight and Left Behind book collections. Because I can promise on most days every thrift store will have every single book from all three of those series.

Or for one scraggly dollar you could buy the Kenny Rogers Christmas album on vinyl.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@SW-User yeah but unfortunately and thrift stores it's all the crappy stuff like Christmas albums, Jimmy swaggart, 101 strings, Roger williams, Barbra streisand, and just stuff that nobody wants.
SW-User
@CestManan And they are all scratched up too. I couldn't play a record that had pops, skips, and the warp sound. Feels like I am in a popcorn factory.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@SW-User when I actually find something that doesn't suck, I just try to clean them best I can. Of course with used LP there's going to be that crackling noise no matter what during the quiet spots.

Anything I can double my money on.
Personally, anything from sweaters, jackets, tank tops, books and music.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
Probably $20, unless I find some nice crystals in there.
WonderGirl · 36-40
An old floor lamp I can rewire and use in my living room.
Probably $20 unless my pocket gets picked
sassy1 · 46-50, F
Depends on if I see something that catches my eye and fits. I actually get almost all of my clothes at the thrift store. I’d absolutely love to walk out with a navy golf skirt, some long sleeve golf shirts and ten dollars left. I like to go when there is a .99 color and/or 50% color tags

A demonstration of my lack of thrift
Two bags of stuff I really don’t need.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I can buy about 4 shirts.

Some english china

Maybe a full bed, dresser with drawers, and maybe a bike. With the rise of inflation, money like that doesn't go far
calicuz · 51-55, M
@SW-User

that's a lot of stuff for 20 bucks.
SW-User
@calicuz That was before this damn inflation. Of course, I would have to get more cash to round out my buying
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
With this inflation, within the coming years maybe you'll be able to buy a used lightbulb with that kind of money.

I only go to thrift stores to drop things off. I never buy anything there. Someone else more needy than me may need what I bought.

JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@DearAmbellina2113 I rarely buy new books. At Christmas I sometimes get new ones.
