Before the ram goes up get it.

@greensnacks that mini PC in the picture had 32ram. That is pretty good for that type of PC

Like anything else it depends on your use case.

Most have soldered RAM or a single Laptop style RAM slot so your options for future upgrades will be limited. Depending on the brand you may or may not be able to replace the CPU.

So first thing would be to figure out your use case and how long you want this thing to last you. Regardless this will be a significant upgrade.

The RAM will likely be an eventual limitation for video editing if you go up to like 4K or higher res.

One upside is with a mini PC you can get a real monitor with proper colour accuracy which will make your life easier.

I have not done DAW work since my Power Mac G4 days but if you need external peripherals as many USB ports you can bet on it will be a good plan. same with storage for video.

Also look up your video editor and figure out what CPUs and GPUs it plays best with.

Sadly there are not simple and easy answers but hopefully this gives you a starting point.

I use a Mid Tower PC in large part because for my purposes I need something that will hold a full size GPU and plenty of storage along with good airflow.

Airflow and design is also something to look into. Poorly designed mini PCs that look great on paper thermal throttle meaning you never get full performance out of them.
Sounds like you are trying to exchange one hurt with another. Laptops are cool because they are portable. You can connect large screen monitor to it and hide it in a corner someplace, but if you want to take it to the beach or the office you can do that too. Changing to a mini computer will likely have you in a similar position, maybe with other unexpected issues.
I dunno, if it was me and I didn't like my laptop I would get a real gaming computer, then there are lots of options.

you got a celeron on your laptap which was killing you / it is just a weak processor. however 32 bg ram is hard core. the worry i have with the minis is cooling. I don't know the answer but processors get hot and small chassis like that feels like it would take a beating over a sort time span. i have a sneaky suspecision they have a shorter lifespan because of their size and hotter temps inside the chassis

@robertsnj you're right I just read reviews on them and they don't last long. Cooling issues smh
You can get a good deal if you look around on auction sites and recycling places, you can find something with a better CPU. It might also be possible to buy a motherboard and CPU combo and buy the case separately. An "open box" or new motherboard and a used case might save a bit of money.🤷‍♂
The PC I'm writing on is an all-in-one, basically laptop or mini parts, I still use it because the picture is fantastic!! For me it's not slow, but that's a Linux thing.

I have look into them pretty well. Office type work it would work fine for the most part. If u want it for graphics work or gaming it will struggle. I imagine it has a built-in graphics card and they are not the most powerful

if youre gonna get a pc, get a proper one and build it yourself. Half the cost. I mean what are you gonna do? Have a tiny pc but carry around the monitor everywhere? It won't be like a laptop

Wait to sell your graphics card, there's a global shortage and it will sell for a lot.
