I don’t patronise stores that have ‘ self service checks outs anywhere .
No choice at one Sainsbury’s ( uk ) I just left the stuff in the basket .
devonman · 61-69, M
@Olderguy plenty of places where I live , pleased to offer good service .
Olderguy · 61-69, M
@devonman give it time.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Olderguy Walmart has ruined many a good cashier from ever wanting to shop there again after they got up and quit. They have ruined their own reputation for the way they treat their employees. The corporation is soulless.

Bri89 · 31-35, M
Is it just going to be checkout jobs or every job? It will feel eerie to go into a store with no humans. I am an introvert, but that would make it feel empty.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Bri89 I think there has been a prototype done of a store maybe another company that has done this, no employees present. Also a gas station has been done this way. Pretty sure someone has to come inside and clean it at night including the restrooms.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
are they going to have autmated shelf stocking too?

I mean, I hate walmart

and It irks me that I pay the same price to have a human check me out or if I do it myself.

but it's the trend. no employees - except for some housekeeping type work.

we're going to automate ourself out of a job
Lostpoet · M
@Pretzel I kind of like the self checkouts😌you no longer have to talk to anyone.
twiigss · M
@Lostpoet I don't mind talking to people, I just don't want to wait in line behind someone who has the entire cart literally stuffed with items. But, I do wish there were more floor employees around because there are times I'm looking for something specific and would like to be able to ask an employee where it might be.
Lostpoet · M
@twiigss True
TexChik · F
That is odd because the self-checkout lines were causing all the problems. People were stealing them blind. Blue states only enforce laws when it's advantageous for them. Perhaps a mass closure of blue-state stores and eliminating self-checkouts in red-state stores is the answer.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@TexChik I'm not proud of it but I took stuff because it wasn't ringing up. I didn't intentionally try to steal stuff but with the frustration I wasn't going to wait around so imagine what people who are trying to steal can get away with.
Lostpoet · M
😫O, brave new world! Soon babies are going to be born in labs outside of the mother's womb.

I hated shopping at WallyWorld and this just ads to my dislike of that store.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Lostpoet How do you know that hasn’t been happening already?
Lostpoet · M
@cherokeepatti I know it has been done to other animals, but i didn't know they were doing it on people. I actually do think that's where science is leading to because women usually don't like being pregnant for nine months.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Lostpoet by the time they tell about what they are doing to animals “for the first time” it’s been done for decades with humans. And some women who don’t want to get pregnant and give birth will pay someone else to carry their baby. Paris Hilton did that recently.
NCCindy · 36-40, F
Pretty much where things go when you raise the minimum wage above what the employer can afford to pay
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NCCindy Thinking McDonalds will get automated in many of their restaurants as well.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
I have a failing everything will fail on both sides in this world pretty shortly than later. I can't wait.

No more fucking AI. No more Chinese goods. No more bullshit Corporate U.S. no more fake news no more woke Companies and everything will fall.

I just need to hold on to dragon ball before the Woke Targets it next :/
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FreestyleArt I have read by someone who was in the know that after the Federal Reserve System is finished and the tax fraud corrupt stops the plan is that people will be free to work fewer hours due to automation. But it won’t be the end of jobs, there will be organizational type jobs, overseeing or white collar type that are necessary to keep the businesses functioning but fewer hours and much less stress. 20-hour workweeks on average but no goofing off. It would be excellent to have most of the week to spend with family or personal business or whatever and energy leftover after the end of the workweek. And most likely the end of Chinese goods as jobs will be relocated here and south of the border for the people who need them there.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti With the work I do at my job, there is no way we could even incorporate automation. It HAS to be done by hand. And I've seen several youtube videos of the same type of work I do, and it's all being done by hand.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
For streamline checkout it's easier to just go to Amazon.com.

Is Walmart morphing into the new Sears?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Heartlander Depending on what you buy Amazon might be a lot less expensive. I have comparison shopped and found that to be the case for many items, or buy them at other websites.
Olderguy · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti thee is no automation at Amazon at all, is there?
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Olderguy There is, the good kind :) We order on line and the box arrives at our doorstep.
Penny · 46-50, F
i prefer to check myself out. i had a cashier charge a carton of cigarettes to me before. i had to put stuff back too. didnt notice the carton charge til after i went home.
I suppose the need for people at the checkout counter will become greatly reduced, and possibly obsolete as they perfect the technology.
Nimbus · M
Nope.

It's predicted Artificial Intelligence will displace another 3 million jobs worldwide in the near future.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Hate them and try not to use them but sometimes do,, sorry
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Barny52 I’ve been using them a lot less this past year. Have found 2 discount stores that I find incredible bargains on some of the things that I was buying at WM. Also order from a health food site called Swansons, shop at Winco, Big Lots, Aldi, and other stores.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti totally agree with not using them, the jobs they cut is disgusting and tax lost must be ££££££s
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Barny52 I look for alternative ways of purchasing things that I need and will continue to do so.
TBone · M
You couldn’t melt me down and pour me in a Walmart store. Haven’t shopped in one in many many years.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
No ones been able to get the self check outs to work properly...
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Thevy29 a lot of theft going on with them. Especially things like produce, they will change the codes from something that is expensive they are buying and try to pay a low price like bananas. Also they saw a guy one night when I was working taking a razor blade and cutting bar codes off of cheap items and taping them to high-priced items. He had done a lot.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
No. Have not bought anything In Walmart in decades.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
I definitely would never
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
What if all the walmarts near to you are automated? You'd be stuck going further off, wasting gas. Of course you could switch to a competitor, but they might not have the product range or mix that you like.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Longpatrol I would go somewhere else. There are always other options and some of those options I’ve found are less expensive for some of the products that I buy. Walmart is not as cheap as they try to make people believe they are.
devonman · 61-69, M
@Longpatrol here in England. I drive out of my way to use a store that offers a manned check out .
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
The technocrats and elite leftist ideologues are ushering in a post human world and want us to like it. These people are pure evil.
Hate to say this, but it sounds like a cool maintenance gig for someone like me. Too bad I'd never work that chain.
Olderguy · 61-69, M
Don’t go to Walmart either way.
Iwillwait · M
A brave new world
Azlotto · M
I will not...I don't even use the automated cashiers at any store.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
To me, the self-checkout is work, and that's not what I'm there to do. If I knew I would have no one to ask a question or give advice, I'd just as soon not burn $4/gallon gas to drive to a store.

But hey, the bean counters know everything. Right?
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
I only use it at dollar stores because at least I'm scanning the stuff and not getting ripped off by fast swiping cashiers.@uncalled4
