“Doctor, I’m depressed,” the man says; "life is harsh, unforgiving, cruel."
The doctor lights up. The treatment, after all, is simple. “The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight,” the doctor says, “Go and see him! That should sort you out.”
The man bursts into tears. “But doctor,” he says, “I am Pagliacci.”

Healing is an ongoing process..it never ends. It starts with recognizing that there's a problem...then figuring out that problem is . What works for some may not work for all . I personally find talking about it too much only perpetuated the horrible feelings ...it was cyclical. I'm not saying ignore it ...Give it your attention for 15 minutes ..be sad ...cry ...punch something...then do something else ...as I said that's just me ...
Be kind and gentle to yourself..be the person you need when you're struggling at times. Unfortunately, not everyone will care or want to be bothered so it's a good idea to care for yourself. We are the way we are because of our experiences both good and bad .... our trauma becomes something we can choose to learn how to be a better version of ourselves or our worst version of ourselves. The good news is...we have a choice .

@Notladylike as a stab in the dark id say -
"I bet youre using up all your mental and emotinal energy on empathy for others - and have notning left in the tank for yourself"
😞
You are wonderful for everything you put into your work .....it blows me away how dedicated you are, and the horrors you learn of.
...but as Gabor Maté observed :
The good die young.
Im being literal here. He speaks about how trauma amd pain impacts our body amd health ....how our body holds onto it.
He watches the obituaries and time and time agaon he quotes them - "this person was ill yet still served their community to the end"
"Loving mother, was always there for everyone", " dedicated their life to others, lost all yoo soon" ....etc ..
...people who helped everyone else ....till they died an early death from it 😢
I dont tell you this to be morbid - i tell you to scare the fuck outta you .
Your compassion can kill you
Amd theres no rule book for self care to guide you....no one shows you how to care for yourself or what you need.
Now im not saying 'dont be compassionate'. Im saying 'hold reserves for yourself' - "treat your yourself like you would a client' .
Mind, body and soul are one. If you starve or exaust one - the others will suffer. It all adds up .
I can't find the podcast of his that i specifically wanted, but this also applies .
Hes good.
Im not saying hes a guru...or that hes some sort of wunderkind, but many connect with his ideas.

@OogieBoogie Yeah exactly that I’ve been so focused on helping others I think it’s time to slow down. Just focus on my daughter and my own life for a little while. His work is actually what started me on this journey. Realising I thought I was okay and could handle it. But it was all stored in my body and making me unwell.

I have many outlets.
1. I counsel at my veteran's hospital.
2. I try to help others in worse paces then myself.
3. I do building projects on my farm.
4. I talk about my traumas and share about them.
5. My cross dressing puts me in a happy place (Not a sexual one guys)!

@Notladylike Awe my dear lady you are worth way more than that!!!🤗
@WillaKissing Thank you I need to find a healthier outlet.

@Notladylike Yes! Yes, please do.

I recommend the book, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma, by Van Der Kolk, MD. It can be very enlightening and helpful.
@LadyBronte I have read that it’s a great book.

@Notladylike Yes it is. I am currently rereading it.

It depends on the kind of trauma, but it usually starts with reflection. And talking with close friends about it can help with that.
@NerdyPotato I don’t really talk about it with anyone. Especially not in real life it kind of changes the friendship dynamics.

Therapy

@Quetzalcoatlus
I've been through some shit, and I've been let go be 3 therapists because "I haven't needed therapy anymore"

@Notladylike @RoxClymer Finding the right therapist is part of the process. I went through about 4 of the until I found one that fits.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@Quetzalcoatlus and that is my biggest problem, where I currently live the only local therapist is 30 miles away, and any online therapist is cash-only, and I have enough trouble affording a bottle of alcohol much less session/s with a therapist

Laughter is the best medicine

Im not sure there is 'one' best way .
We kind of have to wander around therapies and find what clicks.
For me it was getting rid of therapists, pushing thru panic attacks, nutrition (amazing), teaching myself NOT to think about it.....and now exercise 😩
Some find relief writting about it, some hate it as it makes them spiral.
So no one path works for everyone.
After a few years of therapists and worsening misery, I opted for 'deny it and leave it the fuck alone to die a slow death in my memeory'.....but that's just me🤷♀

Change is the only way someone can come out of trauma. The willingness to bring about the change. The change of people, place, job, attitude and desire.

My trauma therapist has helped me immensely but reading through comments, i see that's what you do.
Have you processed your own trauma with a therapist?
Have you processed your own trauma with a therapist?
@iamonfire696 yes I have done many different kinds of therapy. I’m wondering if taking a break from work and getting some EMDR might help me recover fully.
