There is a world of difference between being alone and being lonely. Being alone is a lack of people. Most of us can handle that, and sometimes even find it relaxing. Being lonely is the feeling of a lack of bonds. Bonds, unlike people, will go with you no matter where you are. That knowledge that someone is there for you to return to at some point can provide incredible strength and support even when by yourself. A lack of bonds leave one feeling undesired and unwanted, even if they are among a sea of people.
