Apel works too although spell checker hates it. Saves a letter.
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F
Because there’s appeal and there is apple
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
It used to be pronounced ap-luh. The spelling was settled before the pronunciation changed.

It's not a Dutch company.

@Lostpoet app el 😤 Appel 😌
SpectralMourning · 46-50, M
If you break it apart all is explained. “Ap” means “red” in Latin. “Ple” means “fruit” in Latin.

@SpectralMourning Oh I love this

@SpectralMourning So much fo Golden Delicious. 🙄
It is spelled appel in Dutch, but English speakers had to complicate it. 🤷🏻
@NerdyPotato You sure the Dutch weren't the ones who complicated it??? 🤔🤔🤔
@HootyTheNightOwl yes, I'm pretty sure. We write it the way we pronounce it. (Or pronounce it the way we spell it.)
@NerdyPotato But ours is more french sounding and sophisticated... plus it rhymes with other words from the English language.
I read that with the emphasis on the second syllable when it’s spelled like that. And I hear it as the word
"to call".😊

Or the random Ks that someone decided were needed in some words. I wonder why K-nife you K-now? Or K-nit? And why a K over any other letter?
FeetAreFantastic · 46-50, MVIP
I have no idea. But English spelling is insanely weird.
@FeetAreFantastic Nah, it's you Dutchies who can't spell it right... 🤭🤭🤭
You think too much.
Wait until you find out about bubble
