I really struggle to comprehend how anyone in 2023 believes any of the dumb shit in The Bible

Fairydust · F
Did you read it all?

@orioninthenight
My help was free
And yet I still feel like I want my money back.
@SW-User maybe you should pray for more, since that seems to work so well for you

The hedonism that has taken over modern society has made people think they’ll look cool and be accepted more if they disrespect religion
@G0ddess "supernatural is proven by experience"

but experience can be measured

if ghosts and angels exist why isn't their existence proven by science?
G0ddess · F
@orioninthenight if your heart isn’t open to experiencing the supernatural and God don’t blame it on religion
@G0ddess well if you are just going to tell me you believe in magic and I am not open to believing in that bullshit then I have nothing to say

gods are the product of religions (created by humans), religions and gods are not separate things
Matt85 · 36-40, M
The Bible, particularly the old testament, is about the law. Not a lot of people can handle the law because it condemns them... Alas there is good news! Jesus fulfilled the law... I could go on but I don't think you'd be interested.
@Matt85 "Kill both men and women, infants and nursing babies, oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys.” Thank you God 🙏
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@Ozymandiaz This is what I mean.
TexChik · F
I’m so glad you said that . The flames of Hell have to burn something. 👍🏻
@TexChik Why do you believe that is even a real thing though? Because it is in the bible and well dressed old people told you so in a pretty building? I mean the bible also talks about ghosts, angels, and magic. Do you think that is also real? Or just conveniently only a metaphor when it suits you?
@SamInAZ I have seen you posts. So I know you know what you are talking about
@TexChik I mean have you ever met anyone who died and asked about that experience? (Besides what you saw on the history channel lol)

Lord hear us
@SW-User I am stealing this

@Ozymandiaz damn! I want ten percent of the buxom brunettes in your inbox!!😐

Same my dude, but being taught shit from a young age and not being shown any other points of view until it's too late will do that to a person unfortunately.
@boklenholley7 It seriously diminishes my faith in humanity
@Ozymandiaz I try to think of them like children.. stupidity is forgivable. Not everything should be corrected all at once because that's overwhelming. As long as they're not outright harming me, (or shoving their beliefs in my face) that part of their beliefs can be ignored and we can move on with our lives.

God is awesome and holy. But, He gives us the freedom of choice. Spending eternity in hell won't be fun, but it is your choice.
jackieash · 26-30
@Musicman Just supposing.....there is nether heaven nor hell.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@jackieash It's really not possible.
jackieash · 26-30
@Musicman Why not?
jackieash · 26-30
Personally, I don't believe in the bible either, But why does it bother you that others do?
@jackieash I merely pointed out the world doesn't revolve around you
jackieash · 26-30
@Ozymandiaz I never said it did.
@jackieash Just because something doesnt effect you doesn't mean it doesn't effect other people that is all I am saying
I confronted an old friend about this the other day. I was like, "do you really believe the bible?" "Don't you think it is a little too fantastical?"

He told me that this is why Christians need to have faith. 🙄

I mean I guess I could also have faith that the universe rests on the back of a giant turtle.
@orioninthenight Faith is the assertion used for lack of evidence
@Ozymandiaz Yea I know that. I'm a native english speaker with a university level education.
@orioninthenight Good for you. I agree with the points you made. No need to get so sensitive.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
10 commandments...?
@Mellowgirl I think you only really doubled down on what I was saying.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Ozymandiaz OK....
@Mellowgirl Thank you for the response though

I like the bit when they kill Moses' dog and he goes after them with unrelenting vengeance. That's in John Wick, chapter 1 🤔
They don't. That's why nobody lives by the Bible.
@BritishFailedAesthetic He also said he didn't come to change the laws. He said the ancient Israelite laws still apply.
@BohemianBoo But that he fulfilled them.
@BritishFailedAesthetic Sure, but that doesn't mean Christians aren't required to continue following the rules of the Old Testament. Also, like I said, Christians don't follow the rules of the Old Testament either.
cerealguy · 26-30, M
So is posturing a point? Or do you concretely want to have a meaningful dialogue about any idea?

Cuz insults don't serve anything. I'm not even a Christian but this constant insulting is indecent and meaningless
cerealguy · 26-30, M
@Ozymandiaz let me clarify my point more accurately:

Indecency in speech does not articulate or drive any message across. Poor image is a side effect. The imagery you'd be illustrating would also get lost
@cerealguy You are entitled to your opinion.

I wasn’t trying to convince anyone with my post. So i am not worried by the stuff you mentioned.
cerealguy · 26-30, M
@Ozymandiaz oh. True dat then
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Does their belief harm you
jackieash · 26-30
@Ozymandiaz Once again, you have chosen to misread my reply to you. I'm wondering why this is? You also failed to spot that I am atheist and when I got married we both set out to rid our day of any religious overtones which our families went alomg with ( my wife;s family not totally happy with that but accepted it) . Your accusation about me thinking "the world revolves around me" is nothing but a total lie.
@jackieash I didnt fail to spot that you said you are an atheist. What you failed to spot is I dont care.

I also dont care about your personal anecdotes
jackieash · 26-30
@Ozymandiaz Fair enough. I'm giving you advance notice you are blocked. You give atheists a bad name. Adieu.

Man, this is a thread for a meme video.
@SW-User Thank you
@Ozymandiaz Well again, thanks for sharing your expert, well thought out opinion. 👍
@BritishFailedAesthetic Still triggered i see 😂
@Ozymandiaz 😂😂😂
lost in translation..

Because it's a "sacred" mental illness and has had money and power for thousands of years to prevent itself from being treated. A doctor trying to treat a religion will be defrocked, sued and even killed by that religion's victims.

That's why scrupulosity is so under diagnosed. If it gets bad enough we just start calling them religious terrorists. Not even realizing they have a severe sickness with an actual name.

Another example is wanting to kill or suicide bomb. Yet dictators never get treated for that because they have power and wealth. Thus the disease insulates itself from treatment.

The wealth gives them power. And many priesthoods throughout history preyed upon and terrorized their followers into giving them wealth and positions of power.

Over the millennia the effect just snowballed until you now have things like tax exempt churches which allow them to accumulate more wealth and more power to enforce their mental parasite upon the most vulnerable populations: children, elderly and the sick. Which if you notice are the exact people they always go after. The bible itself even says to go after the children:
"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."
I.E. brainwash the kids.

@Bladey The 10 commandments are dumb.
Bladey · M
@Ozymandiaz It is inconvenient but it does make sense and prevent much suffering and problems
