Leaning how to disengage has been one of the life skills I've been working on the past couple years and while it was difficult at first, it has gotten easier with practice and has been much to my psychological benefit.

Aw. I was about to share fried chicken with you, because sharing is caring.

Yes. You can't save the world, nor should you try, and you certainly shouldn't expend undue amounts of effort on someone else when you can't even keep yourself afloat. Similarly, you shouldn't take on the world's problems whilst ignoring your own. That is often just hiding.

@mindstruggle very much so if somebody is giving you unwarranted grief for no apparent reason you need to let it not not bother you if you can for the sake of your own sanity

Sometimes we have to accept that we are not powerful enough to change a situation.

It’s hard to force myself not to care. I find it’s easier to understand why and then stop caring. Once I get to the root of the problem and I can justify why I should stop caring, it doesn’t feel forced. Some things just can’t be helped.

You are not wrong
Unlearn · 41-45, M
Yeah...
WhateverWorks · 36-40
The way I’ve had to learn to see it is that having boundaries doesn’t mean you don’t care. How much you care isn’t defined by how much bs you put up with. Sometimes I’ve also had to pull away because I realized my efforts to be helpful were only enabling them and actually getting in the way of their epiphany, so to speak.
