I just thought about it & this is the longest I've gone without alcohol since middle school

Kinda sad to say but it also feels pretty cool that I've been sober this long. It's been over 8 months now. It doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment for some reason though. Maybe just because I don't mention it to people or make a big deal out of it. Most people in my real life don't even know I quit drinking. I've seen a lot of people who mention "I don't drink anymore" every time they see or hear about alcohol 😅 I didn't wanna be that guy.

Maybe the feeling of accomplishment will hit me more once I reach a full year. Honestly the last time I've gone this long without drinking was probably in 6th grade or something.. I don't even know for sure. I think I'm allowed to feel at least a little proud of myself right now 🙂

Pat yourself on the back for the accomplishment then don't think about it. I haven't had a smoke since Christmas and haven't given it much thought until I went to the doctor today and answered that question No not since Christmas. I had been making my own for years. After Vickie passed I cut back to 2 a day. 1 for each time I went on the porch to let the dog out. We spent all our time together out there and kept the smoke out of the house. This past Christmas week I ran out of tobacco and tubes on the same day and said screw it I'm not going to the store for this.

It doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment for some reason though.

It can be funny like that, probably because the good effects are not "Tangible".

but think of this, since you are not drinking,

you have improved your health.
You have avoided legal problems that may have came from alcohol abuse.
You have saved a lot of money, putting it towards more important things.

I would just say, NEVER tell yourself "just one" because that "just one" leads to full relapse.
I know that from when I had quit smoking for a year and a half, but something happened and I said, "just one". Most vulgar words in the English language.

My husband early in his recovery would put the amount he would have spent on drugs into a piggy bank whenever he got cravings. He would save it for a year and then use it to buy gaming stuff, gym equipment, whatever he wanted.

You deserve to celebrate yourself.
@SwampFlower My mum did this when she quit smoking and would go out on cruises with my old man with her smoking money. Its crazy how quick the smoking, drinking and drug money adds up 😂

That is awesome man. I'm almost 40 and I haven't gone more than 5 days without a drink since high school haha.
