Kid's toys don't seem that cool anymore

I miss my science kit from when I was young. It had so many cool things

they don't let kids play with any thing "dangerous" anymore

It seems like the tools were also more detailed and higher quality today as well.

I feel like toys went in two directions. Some are really cool. They do have some really cool science kits and stuff. But others feel cheaper. A lot of the toys were crappy plastic when I was a kid too, but it feels like a lot of them are even more flimsy these days. The good things are expensive and the every day stuff lacks quality.

And some pretty cool items are hard to find or don't exist. I remember the creepy crawlers oven which was basically the boys version of easy bake, though you couldn't eat from it. I also remember foam cutting toys for making things with a hot wire. The kind of things they don't sell anymore for fear a kid will get burned and someone will sue them.

They used to give kids real science equipment...

I believe even mercury and lead paints...

And mini ovens that actually worked and could burn, or toys that could actually hurt someone...

It's all tech now. Not near as cool as toys from our era. Our toys involved thinking for ourselves.

The most popular I'm seeing in my community are kendamas and "squishies". Kendamas I actually approve because it takes precision and patience to actually achieve tricks. Kinda reminds me of yoyos. Squishies I think is a waste of money if collecting, but having one good one to fidget with while working on things isn't so bad.

I never really had "cool" toys. But the toys that I saw on tv for sure were more exciting than the toys they have now.
