Why do i do this to myself ?😩

Im watching van builds and cruising motorhome videos.
Im so jealsous of some of these !

Mind you - some commerical motorhomes can be like $700 000....upto an obscene 3 million dollars - dafuq?!?!

On the build side - wow some people are creative and clever 😍

Still - its nice to watch and dream about such things 🥴

I just bought a van. It's a thrashed looking no frills '95 Astro. But it was pretty cheap.
And now it has new tires, new battery, oil and some eighty-dollar blue thing...a distributor?
So I'm well on the way to having a box on wheels to haul music gear and junk around.
But my little art brain has been ticking whilst Ryan has been wrenching on this beast in his yard-
and I'm like,yo. I need an upper deck to carry speaker boxes...oh,hey~why not wave more money at homeboy to test his welding skills and rip the roof off and add a whole 'nother level with that old acrylic skylight I got from Rick on the front and maybe stained glass accents with driftwood braces and shingles and and lazers and and incense braziers and make this hooptie a showpiece that says "the party is here!" when it shows up. Or just kind of keep it lowkey generic with the rosary on the rearview and bleeding Jesus stickers that don't exactly advertise that this thing is potentially loaded with expensive music stuff...? hmmm. Time to watch some gypsy van builds, methinks. Thanks for the heads-up,Oogie.

Plus I have many other tripped-out vehicle stories, trust me.
@dubkebab hahaha.
This is my brain at night 😂
I lay in bed and design shit till my brain gives up or gives in.

Altho these days my heads a bit more scatty (i think thats due to too much youtube and not enough books ...its tuning millennial on me), that i never even finish a project in my imagination, let alone in reality .

Mind you, sometimes those sorts of projects rarely end. Once youve done it, 3 months later you realize a better you should have done it

@OogieBoogie Words of wisdom. I went a bit far with coffee this eve.
But I will do some sort of art thing with this vehicle. Soon it will bring drums to the beach,at least.

My best buddy dreamed of having a fifth wheel camper and finally got one. His family enjoyed it for a few years, but the grandkids are heading off to college and won't be camping any more. He sold it a while back, and he said it was one of the happiest days of his life. Would he do it again? Yes, he said.

@OogieBoogie You need a 4wd one with shower, wc and a coffee machine.

@OogieBoogie ...... and then there's the mainland. 😉
@walabby well , yes, exactly. There's so much to see and absorb.

The only other way to do it, which wouldn't be as 'chill' , but'd prolly be fun, is make it a year long pub crawl. Staying at every little town pub along the way .

My wife and I used to do a lot of tent camping.

Another option, which I have been using more recently, is this. At some state parks, there are very no-frills cabins which can be rented for less than the price of a motel room. (Possibly with no utilities at all, so you would still be cooking outdoors on a camping stove or over the fire, just as you would in a tent.)
@DrWatson i think we have a few places like that, but in honest truth - id really love to be able to stop at cape, or a beach front or a lookout at night, and wake up to those amazing views, (in isolation).
I love the vibe of the quiet and the sound of the earth just turning🤗

@OogieBoogie During the summer after my first year of college (1971) a friend and I went on a camping road trip through New England and Canada. We had a tent. At one campsite we talked with an "old" retired guy, who had sold his house and was living out of his VW van. He drove up and down the East Coast of the US, fishing and staying at campgrounds. He just made sure that once a month he swung by his PO Box in Florida to pick up and deposit his Social Security check! (and nowadays, that is done electronically.)

His vehicle was not fancy, but he was happy.

Of course, that is easier for one person than two, probably.
I can relate
I've done this too ...even go to rv shows just to torture myself 😂

They're just cool 🥹
@pripyatamusementpark dammit !
I wanna know what that feels like 😩
You know, just to walk around, be deluded for a lil bit and play pretend.

I just found one that had 2 lounge rooms, two bathrooms with double sinks, and a full sized kitchen with island bench and a fridge twice the size of a normal one.

Who does that ? !

Maybe they are for pop stars and racing car drivers ☹
@OogieBoogie It's for people who have more money than sense

But it's so fun to pretend 🥹

@OogieBoogie One of my security guard buddies let me snoop around Garth Brooks' mega tour bus for bit...it was pretty opulent,gold-plated faucets, chandelier, comfy leather cushioned media area, etc etc.
But it was kind of sterile and vibeless.I've seen hippie school busses way more cozy and cool.

....or buy a tent.
[@KiwiBirdMaybe, but it depends on how long you want it for.
But thats a great idea to test campers and homes out, to see what you really want and need👍

Edit: i answered this wrong. For some reason i read this as *or try to rent" .

Oops🤷‍♀

@KiwiBird I was a tent camper for many years. They are inexpensive and easy to transport. I mostly picked a spot and camped for a weekend or a week. I wasn't tied to developed campgrounds and it served my family well during spring, summer, and fall. They were pretty much a disaster in the winter.

When my first grandchild was born my son and I started shopping for a cabin in the area we used to camp. Tent camping with infants is a real challenge.

I watch the TV programs and go to RV shows and dream. Then come to the conclusion that my set up is more efficient and economical.
@SageWanderer some are just ridiculously HUGE :.there would be no going into town with them, or finding places to park there.

There needs to be a balance with livabilty, and flexibilty of where you can go with it.

In saying that, ive seen some that come with a garage for a car !
That's insane😅
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@OogieBoogie I was at a campground when a toy hauler pulled into a site. Once they had set up he backed a Smart Car out of the garage.
A lot of the state and federal parks have restrictions on length and since I enjoy the out of the way places mine is perfect.

I have friends who considered buying a motor home but then they saw a used Meerkat trailer for sale. Bought it and have been thrilled with it every since.
@Poppies there are that many types of campers and trailers out there -.its mind boggling.
Cantsayno · 56-60, M
I’ve thought of getting a van and make it a no thrills camper. Something small that could go anywhere.
@Cantsayno some are so clever. Its amazing what they can fit into them with good design. I was looking at camper rrailer too, and there's some that are tiny, yet still have a shower and a toilet.
Some of the personal builds are just beautiful.
