Why are people of color so against being called colored people? It means the exact same thing.

Their connotations are not the same thing. I think it has a parallel with the terms "people with disabilities" vs "disabled people". The former puts the focus on the person first, with disability as a feature of their being. The latter tends to reduce the person's identity to a disability.

@greencompass Be careful - just like there are people now who 'identify' as disabled, people will start to 'identify' as coloured. ie. 'trans-coloured'
