It supposedly takes something like as little as a teaspoon of liquid to "drown" really, so it's not unreasonable that if someone fell, they may be disoriented or even knocked unconscious for a period. It takes a very short amount of time to starve the body of oxygen and begin to experience death of brain cells. The brain being the battery of the body.

@DancingStarGoddess In the Wigan case that's in this image, what are the odds that both of them miraculously hit their heads at the exact same time, and drowned?
@RedundantTiffanyIsAxolotl I mean, if they both were in lock step with one another and both fell, it IS possible that both possibly got injured. I have no idea. But if you're that bothered, why not contact a source who could give you real info? Even the person who wrote the article perhaps? There's not much we can do but debate it with you and what's the sense in that when you seem to clearly have your mind made up?

In the case, the water might have been deeper than what was stated which is an average. Perhaps it was flowing and the bottom was slick. This was a guy with special needs and his 60 year old caregiver. Maybe neither of them could swim. When people start to lose control in water they panic, can become desperate and pull others down. It's why you approach someone drowning from the back. It doesn't take a lot of water to drown. It's unforgiving.
