Where is your sanctuary?

Is it place, a person, a song or piece of music? An activity or an interest?

What quiets your mind and settles your heart?

Being out in nature, often with my headphones on. 🎶☀️🌿🌊

Sitting on the rooftop of my building looking down at the streets at night
At my piano, playing Debussy, Ravel or Satie. I’m trying to get back to it. It was something special I shared with my mother, so when she passed away earlier this year I found myself not wanting to play as much.

@bijouxbroussard Same here. Mum played the piano and organ and wrote hymns and spiritual songs. My childhood was full of music.

Since the Covid lockdown, I can't touch the keyboard, and Mum passing earlier this year hasn't helped. When I go to my parents' house to work on moving stuff, the silence is very strange. Last year, in the mornings when standing at Mum's door with my key in hand, I would often hear her playing the piano inside the house...

@bijouxbroussard That is a beautiful sanctuary , which most of us are not talented enough to enter into. I encourage you to embrace it again. 🤗

I have a certain chair where I like to read. Or, I go to a coffee house and do the same.

Books. Not e-whatever.

@DrWatson Back when I worked sometime the winters were slow and we wouldn't work every day. On a day off I use to enjoy bringing a book and going out for lunch about 1:30. By that time the lunch rush was ending. The wait all knew me and would keep my drink refilled and I would sit there after lunch and just read for an hour or two. I use to really enjoy that.

Barefoot, alone in nature. Observing and thinking in poetry

It used to be a journey on the way to somewhere.
Bus; train; underground; plane...
The getting to rather than the arrival.
These days it's more those rare minutes of peace when I briefly have nothing to do

Weather permitting (which is not now at 100 degrees), I go to a lake by myself and commune with nature. Inside, I have a list of songs that give me peace in my heart.

My craft room. It gives me peace.

I honestly don't know at this point. The old safe spaces are feeling alien and uncomfortable at this point.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
@SW-User I'm so over the clear cutting. :( They've chopped acres and acres down here recently for neighborhoods that still haven't been built. Also an industrial park and they're about to clear another however much for a truck stop.

I know it's affecting my mental health and I can only assume it's affecting everyone else's too. Also really messing up the weather patterns here.

I just wonder how long it can go on before it has gone too far. 😕

@thepreposterouspanda I do so agree that clearcutting with loss of farms and wild areas affects our mental health immensely. It surprises and saddens me that so few people seem to recognise how big a problem this is.

@SW-User They're too enamored with greed and "progress" I guess.

If progress means even MORE asphalt, then I'm not interested. 😅

My sanctuary seems to be a still place inside myself these days. Things around me have been changing too rapidly for me to hold on to anything else.

Music, without music I probably wouldn't be alive tbh. Music calms my brain even just for a few minutes and it says/expresses the things that I cannot. Also with how I dress.
@being There's been too much fire available this year...
being · 36-40, F
@SomeMichGuy I'm talking about a small warming fire
@being Yeah...just too much fire this year...

@Applepiedom Music as well though and movies
Applepiedom · 61-69, M
@Jexie that's good. It's just scary for this to be sanctuary but I too find some peace being here
Jexie · 26-30, F
@Applepiedom It's a distraction
