Internet Addiction

YouTube videos, songs, rabbit holes into interesting topics - all of these things and more are a part of my internet addiction. I want to better my life so I can be successful and be proud of who I am but that means getting out of my addictions and old ways. How do you get rid of these addictions? How do you help rid yourself of the addictions you're faced with?
First learn a lot about why these addictions happen. All these platforms are designed to depress you and stress you first and then reward you with short lived entertainment so you continue to use them. Then commit to reducing things that give you that dopamine rush so quickly ,less time on socials ,porn ,music ,movies etc . More time with no noise ,meditating ,then slowly things like reading books taking walks etc will feel enjoyable again . But it takes a lot of work really it truly is an addiction I think most people suffer from without even realising and it was only ever exaggerated since Covid and making things like work and school depend on technology too

Man I hear 'ya! It's easy to get caught up in different web sites and YouTube is especially a big trap for me.

The key is to strive for balance. You can look for causes and such. Nothing wrong with that, but what do you do with the new information you end up finding? You still have the same problem. I think in my case it's a dopamine dump we get that brings a form of anticipation pleasure.

I say basic stuff similar to any other addiction process. First, recognize and admit you have a problem. Second, surrender (transfer power/control) that problem to God or some form of higher power. Not sure where you are on spiritual things... Then do some different routines. Take a walk outside for 15-30 minutes when you'd normally be on the computer. Go to a park and people-watch (girls of course lol). Just change things up. Maybe after a while, go back and allow yourself only a couple hours a day of browsing.
I find the more you try to fight an addiction the more difficult it becomes like Chinese finger traps you have to slowly ease your way out.

The internet can be a useful tool depending on how you use it.

I think it's a case of building a life around you so it's not the only thing you do. The internet is part of our daily lives in the current time and it will remain as such.

You can still do that and be successful in the goals you want to accomplish, it's just recognising when you're retreating into it as a form of resistance to doing what the ideal version of you would do.

tbh demonising social media only creates more resistance and aggravates the addiction, I was addicted to ig and reddit esp but what helped me is to have non negotiable rules, basically don’t respond to any texts etc till you’re done w the most important tasks/assignments of the day and never use your phone in bed
