The redifining of language for political purposes

I googled 'fuhrer' and i got an immediate dictionary pop up result defining it as something like 'a ruthless dictator'

No, 'fuhrer' translates as 'guide'. To this day, if you have a mountain guide take you walking up a mountain in germany, they would be called a 'bergsfuhrer'.

I dont know why new definitions need making up. A word has a meaning and thats it, thats its meaning.

Tell me about it. The word "literally" so often used as an enhancer, now literally means "metaphorically"

Another word that means the opposite in American English of what it used to is "Libertarian." This now means "anarchist"

@damselfly I was thinking about that earlier with the word literally. It’s because leftists believe so hard in their head the false narratives they make up and then refer to them as being “literal” truths some dictionaries had to redefine the word
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@pianoplayingsteve Nope. Literal still means what it always meant, and your lies don't redefine anything.

@LordShadowfire just look at the google results for ‘the word literally misused’
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@pianoplayingsteve I didn't say people don't misuse the word literally. The lie you are telling is about people with whom you disagree politically.

@LordShadowfire this is no lie. The amount of times I’ve heard ‘literally Hitler’

@pianoplayingsteve no, the word literally is used an an enhancer. "I was literally on fire." Literally, there was no fire, no serious or even minor burns injuries, they literally meant metaphorically, but "on steroids"
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@damselfly if it’s metaphorical then it’s not literal. They are diametrically opposite forms
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@damselfly That is not the grammatically correct usage of the word, however.

@LordShadowfire Yes I know.

@LordShadowfire i think youre seeing a debate about grammar and vocabulary as a debate about politics. In this case it's about grammar and vocabulary but not politics
