@elafina when one looks to ones higher power etc the necessary action will come, which may be patience. A forcing of action as it appeared in your response may lead to higher expectations and result in anger frustration and discontentment.
It’s more about keeping a mindset that doesn’t facilitate anger when pursuing an objective.

@elafina Thanks for asking this question. What I have understood and learned so far is that there are four path/ways.
1. Path of Knowledge: Says problem is Ignorance, and the solution is knowledge.
2. Path of Yoga/Meditation: Says problem is restlessness of mind and the solution is concentration/calming of mind.
3. Path of Devotion/Faith: Says problem is lack of faith/ surrender to God, and the solution is love/faith/surrender.
4. Path of Karma: Says problem is impure actions, and the solution is selfless actions.
And I understand that you may require more than one way to actually achieve the results.

None of those things keep an ego intact, but are escapist mechanisms to provide an illusion of feeding an ego that is already lost.
Moderation for me would be exercise, self awareness of my thoughts and actions, and practicing control and kindness when my heart tells me to be an a-hole.

Can you elaborate? I understand the ego part, but I’m a little confused about the question itself given the examples you used?
WhateverWorks · 36-40
@elafina That’s an interesting perspective . I would propose that for many people self-destructive/destructive behaviors can derive from inflated ego where ego has become so engorged that they feel impervious to the consequences of their actions. I’ve also met many people who engage in seemingly healthy practices who are extremely egotistical lol
To answer your question, I find keeping an inquisitive rather than presumptive attitude helps. I like to look at everything over from three angles: The realistic negative, the realistic positive, and realistic neutral. this frequent perception checking helps me not get too wrapped up in myself.

@WhateverWorks that's super interesting too, wow, i got so many good answers from this question. I find it exciting in a way, not necessarily pleasant, how my whole body reacts to certain answers when it comes to "ego". Something is setting on fire. It's almost abstract, i can explain it but not precisely with words.
You're right about those who dive into destruction because they think they're invincible, now i can think of a few examples that i know. I think both, yours and my point are equally valid.
I like this 3 angle perception, it's quite a novelty to my thinking processes.

For sure. I wasn’t in disagreement with you about your point, only adding to it to resolve the false dichotomy.

Practise compassion like it’s going to save your life one day

You don’t need to see someone as “the enemy” in order to put them in their place…so to speak.

While it isn't very healthy, I kick myself down so that nothing builds up. Can't have a destroyed ego if you have none to begin with.
elafina · 36-40, F
@SW-User yeah...mm..that goes to the "unhealthy" side though.. <3

But whatever I do, there's always someone else that can do it better.
