Am I ruined?

So, I am in my freshman year of college, and I am having a crisis; I don't know if I'll ever be able to do what I want to do: study AI.
AI is artificial intelligence, which entails a lot of math and logical thinking, the latter of which I have no problem with. However, I am not doing well in math. I would need several levels of math, at least an extra few years, just to be able to fully understand the higher levels of it. I would be willing to do so, but I want to make the best possible move. I'm sad, angry, and confused, and wish I had a solution.

Is the confusion about a possible career problem? Like whether you could get a good job?

Or is it just about whether or not you want to put out the effort to learn the math?

Both, I admit. I am currently a linguistics major, and all the career paths I see lead to teaching, which requires a Master's or above. I want to get a PhD, but I need to choose a path that will sustain me until then.
And I do not want to waste too much time trying to fix my math.

Consider calling various Human Resources dept. at places where you'd like to work and asking them what kinds of backgrounds they look for, what kinds of jobs are hardest to fill. Or talk to someone working in these areas (a tech chatboard?) Ask around and see if you can connect over the phone or in person with someone working in that field or a related area.

If you think it would be a strong viable career path, then go ahead and put the time into fixing your math because it is very likely to prove worth it, even in teaching.

Or, get creative and come up with some new career ideas based on what you have already.

That is actually a big problem. What math are you currently taking?

The lowest level. it's algebra.

@1angrytitan: Oh. Shouldn't you be in Calculus?

What do your see as your career?

Linguistics. I love it deeply.

So if you are interested in linguistics you study AI? Seems a bit of a non sequitur.

seems like you already have the solution to your problem☺

Y=mX + B.
That's all you need to know.
