Need a bit of advice

So my manager pulled me into the office and said ive been given a promotion. Im supervisor if my department now. I was stunned because i didnt see this coming. Im 5 months pregnant and i wanted to advance but wasnt expecting until after i returned from maternity leave.

I get along with the current supervisor really well so i asked whats happening to him, thinking hed transferred or something. She said shes demoting him to my current position. I asked why and she said his performance is horrible.

A lot of people are really upset at this. I pulled him aside and told hom im so sorry and i hope theres no riff between us as this is incredibly uncomfortable for me and i know it is for him aswell. He said he knows i have nothing to so with it and that she demoted him because she threw him under the bus and that i should be very careful with her. He also said if i dont feel ready to take on the position to let her know i dont want it.

The thing is i do want it but not like this. Theres now sides at work. So much drama, i dont know what to say and i feel like i shouldnt say anything. I feel thrown in the middle of a war.

Then my manager goes on vacation/holiday and leaves me in charge with minimum training. I have to ask the deputy manager for support and i know she isnt happy with my manager and how she went about demoting my supervisor. I feel like i dont want to be caught inbetween the drama.

What should i do?

Well .. it's an opportunity.. so rise up to the occasion and fulfill the needs of the position. If you haven't been a supervisor before then your job is to get work done and deliver and keep track of work in progress. Obviously the role has been given to you since you have experience and know about the department.

Most importantly stop doing work and get work done, which means you should not be doing whatever you have been doing and instead focus on assigning work to people, track who is doing what by making them report their progress and keep track of deliverables.
