Can my dad do this?

Can my dad claim me as a dependent on his tax return paperwork? I’m 23 years old and I haven’t been a full time college student at all. I have read online that if that’s the case then he can’t claim me. I keep telling him this but he insists I am a dependent. I think he’s trying to make me lie. He says I won’t be able to be covered by his health insurance policy if I claim myself. Is this true? I don’t mind paying for my own health insurance.

Not really sure, but I haven't heard you can't be on a parent's health insurance unless you're a dependent. It's til a certain age and other requirements I believe.

@HannahSky here it’s up to the age of 24 if unemployed

@Longpatrol I think the US is still til 26 regardless of employment but you can choose your employers coverage if you want.

@HannahSky that’s what I was reading somewhere. I’m pretty sure I read it more clearly than my dad.

@HankHill you can definitely look at the gov site under the affordable care act for the info
