well sounds to me like its exactly what you should say, what shows more dedication then accepting to make less money just because its what you actually want to be doing?

@iamnikki this is how i deal with periods of hard work and no fun: i need what i call a carrot, something hanging in front of me keeping me going, a fun goal. so i basically always have a fun activity to look forward to and as long as i have that i can work non-stop. as soon as i experience the fun goal i had given myself i quickly come up with another one. right now, I'm planning to go back to Peru. when i come back i will set myself some other fun goal, probably a ski trip. in between i spend very little and focus only on saving money for my next adventure.

@reflectingmonkey thats great but I cannot go to peru, or anywhere for very long. Job doesn't allow; vacation times accumulates very slowly. The fun things that i can do are so fleeting. And I never feel fulfilled or happy. Not even for a moment

@iamnikki its not exactly about doing fun things but more about looking forward to fun things. its kind of like tricking the mind. you make the mind think that we are going towards this fun goal but the real hidden goal was the state of mind that we are in when going towards a fun goal. but to make it work you have to focus on the goal with enthusiasm. like when we say :"getting there is half the fun", well i would say its 3/4 of the fun. so it can be just a one day goal, a 3 day goal. just think of things you'd like to do, or just google words like "fun things to do in texas", " fun daytrip activities", join some facebook activity groups. the sens of fulfillment comes AFTER you've set a goal and did it. but dont expect the goal itself to give extra meaning to life, its just about doing it and once its done you set another one. its the passage from having a goal to reaching it which is the sweet spot, not the goal itself. try it, pick a day you have off in one month and plan something. the bigger goals take more money so are more far apart. takes me a year or two to save up for a big trip, a few months for a small one. choose one of those "I've always wanted to do that" things and plan it and do it.
