Tell me- should I text him?

Let's start with the backstory. This guy is my father's friend's son. Let's call him R. R and I met about 4 years ago for a camping trip. We hit it off immediately (our fathers were there). Just as friends. We started texting and calling about 6 months later- he lives 4 hours from me, so we could never hang out. This has continued. We usually go on the camping trip 1-3 times a year, but every time it's like we're the best of friends (maybe more). When we first started talking (3 years ago, this episode lasted around 3 months) I was OBSESSED with him- convinced he liked me etc. He had to tell me he didn't like me 3 times, that his mom told him to tell me. However we kept in contact with eachother after.
Fast forward to 2017. I consider us good friends. I find my own boyfriend because I realize R doesn't like me in that way. Well, before R, our dads, and I left to go camping, R met my boyfriend briefly. Then on that camping trip (around 9 months ago) he was almost... cold, mocking. It felt like he didn't want anything to do with me, he kept teasing me (and not about my boyfriend)
About a month after that trip I stopped texting and calling him, due to a new phone (I couldn't text him from it).
Now, about 1 month ago I saw a phone call from him. He didn't leave a voicemail and when I texted his sister to ask why he'd phoned me, she said it "was an accident the phone he had been using is acting up". Now this is weird because he phoned me from their house (landline) phone- those don't just dial the wrong number.
About 2 weeks ago I found out that he had a phone that he could text me from. I wasn't clear on why we stopped talking. Do you think I should just text him (my dad wants to give me his number) and make it clear that if he doesn't want to talk I'll leave him alone, but if he does he can finally text me? I can't call him as he's away right now, from home. What should I do? He's so much better than me.

If he gets cold to you because you have a boyfriend, it may be not such a good idea to text him.
Will you meet him again on a camping trip?
Classified · M
@wolfess It's an option.
Do you know why you would want to call him and would you be okay explaining that to him?
wolfess · 26-30, F
@Classified Yes, but I can not call him, he is away from home doing a forestry job for the summer. I want to know if he wants to talk. The way I've treated him probably left him feeling hurt and his friendship unwanted.

@wolfess If you feel bad about that and want to apologise, that's a good reason to text or call, I think.

what can it hurt
and like your Dad said ,then you will know
My Granddaughter assumed a boy I have known since he was 4 liked her
Even when he was in Brazil he would climb a mountain to get a signal to call her
we assumed they would end up a couple ,when he was state side he even gave her piano lessons ,
But on a retreat for woman ,his Mom and my Granddaughter talked and his Mom said he was only being so kind to her so he did not break her heart
but he only seen it as a crush ,but she asked my Granddaughter outright if she was waiting on her son ,and she admitted she was (she has never cared about anyone except him ) and I was all for it he is a very very smart and respectful young man ,
but now things have changed and he stopped calling ,he even avoided her at church
I am sure the Mom had something to do with it
He and his sister were home schooled ,,raised to a strict religious life style
they hardly get to leave the family farm except when they go out of country doing missionary work
I really think she was afraid that he and my granddaughter might marry
and then he is to leave his Father and Mother and cleave only unto his wife

I think she was afraid she was about to lose control over her son and she made him break it off
Why would you climb a mountain so you could talk to someone that was only a crush

it sad really they made a handsome couple and I thought they were perfect for one another
but if he is that much of a Momma's boy ,,she did not need that
wolfess · 26-30, F
@rckt148 Funny you say that- my dad always jokes that R's mom told him this or that or to say it etc.

let it be he sounds like a douche. He tells you he doesn’t like you but gets pissy when you find a boyfriend. Uh uh don’t let him use you like that.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@VioletRayne He's the furthest thing from a douche. He's the kindest best person I've met in my entire life. And the whole I don't like you thing was 3 or 4 years ago, he met my new boyfriend 1 year ago. Not only that, we live 4 hours apart.
Another reason i stopped phoning him- I had a rough year and got into drugs. He was too good. He's one of the most perfect people there is.
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
@wolfess hmm k. It up to you but it sounds like you still like him.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@VioletRayne What do you mean?
I still am with my boyfriend. Have been for 1.5 years... I'm just missing an old friend.
Groofydorkgerdo · 56-60, M
He may be giving you space, now that you have a boyfriend.
I have female friends, when they get new partners, I back away a bit and give them.time.to adjust.
We usually come together after some.time has passed.

If you can, let it go, let it be Unless you need to know.

It may be that likes you, but is to shy to make a move, albeit , this does not sound like the case.

My advise is to talk, or text him and see how be feels.
I would also suggest to tell your current boyfriend, about your feelings for him, as things may turn bad.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@Groofydorkgerdo I don't have feelings for R. I'm just missing an old friendship that was lost. I regret not calling him on his birthday (June 5th), not calling him back on june 20th, etc...
I'd like him to come to me when he's ready, but knowing him he'll think I don't want to talk to him, especially with how I've treated him. And I can't really get my dad to give him my number- that's not only weird but also a bit cowardly.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
I would leave him alone. Let him make an effort to contact you.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@ReneeT He doesn't know he can text me though. Let me elaborate- he used to have an iPad with an email. Then I got a samsung last fall. I didn't call him on his birthday (June 5th) which I still feel really bad about. He called me June 20th and I really should have phoned back but didn't. And his sister, well she's younger than him, if that affects anything. She and I aren't close, I just was trying to find out if I needed to call R back.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@ReneeT Not really a way to just give him my number, I'd have to text. There's no way to get in touch with him right now aside from texting. Which sucks.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
@wolfess I see. So, if you really want to find out anything for sure and get closure if that is the case, then I would just text him a hello and ask how he is. Then see what his answer is like. That should let you know. Sorry if I misunderstood a little of it. I hope that helps
I’d just let it go
SW-User
gosh, girl...
wolfess · 26-30, F
@SW-User How is it too complicated?
SW-User
@wolfess too many emotions and partners. too much time. you don't know what you want to do. it will work itself out, i have no doubt, if you take a passive stance. that's all the advice i can offer. good luck.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@SW-User I have had a passive stance for 8 months! Yet I was the one who did not call him on his birthday or return his calls.

wolfess · 26-30, F
@beards No, he never did. He was just distant, teasing. Different.
Prisoner69 · 26-30, M
wolfess · 26-30, F
@Prisoner69 I'm confused now.
Prisoner69 · 26-30, M
@wolfess what's the confusion lol. It's super simple
wolfess · 26-30, F
?
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
Just text him already. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
wolfess · 26-30, F
I don't have feelings for him. Fyi.
caccoon · 36-40
If you need closure, do it. Otherwise, I'd let it go.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@caccoon I meant I wasn't really clear on why he couldn't text me. He's noy tech savvy so he may still think he can't text, I d8d not explain thorougyly.
caccoon · 36-40
@wolfess It's okay! Sorry about that.

I think you should do what you think is best but be wary of your feelings if you think you might be hurt by gettin close to him again and he doesn't feel the same. But only you know.
wolfess · 26-30, F
@caccoon Thank you.
