Don't know that it would be an invention per se, but the whole sterilization and managed procreation scheme from Brave New World needs to be a reality, to keep global human population at a sustainable level (we stayed below two billion prior to the 20th century, antibiotics, vaccines, modern medicine, the Industrial Revolution, et al.)
Most other inventions are relatively meaningless if the planet is overrun with tens of billions of people exceeding Earth's carrying capacity and finite resources (and worsening its climate, which in turn reduces Earth's capactiy to feed people via agriculture, as our footprint increases deforestation, desertification, and makes us run out of fresh water without doing energy intensive and ecologically damaging unnatural things like sea water desalination for people who insist on / think it is a birth right to live in deserts), and lowering the overall standard of living for all average people ("average" presupposes the coninued existence of thingslike capitalism and wealth inequality ... perhaps "lower class" and "middle class" in capitalism-ese)
Maybe a corollary invention would be a device that makes humans recognize when something is utopian, not dystopian (or just make humans more intelligent, more rational, and more knowledgeable in general)

At what point does the possibility of such a procedure become 'unlikely' for someone over a certain age (either because of expense for an elder who's unlikely to contribute economically to society afterwards but will possibly become a permanent expense in terms of post-op care ?
And the reverse.
Would younger patients be considered first on transplant lists as the chances of them making a good recovery and with 'predicted lifespan' of much longer as a result, make such an operation more 'economically viable' ?
At what point does the possibility of such a procedure become 'unlikely' for someone over a certain age (either because of expense for an elder who's unlikely to contribute economically to society afterwards but will possibly become a permanent expense in terms of post-op care ?

@Picklebobble2 A very good point. We might be already at that stage, but there's also the question that even without the matter of "assisted dying" whether someone would want to exist for long in such a condition.
Indeed, many people will say "I don't want to become a burden", on their family or the tax-payer, but non-ne wants to die if they, or the doctors can possibly help it - unless life has become unbearable for them and care can only be palliative
We have to recognise that no living organism is immortal, and medicine's object really is to alleviate suffering, not search for some 'elixir'.
The financial aspect shows that in a way, modern medicine is a victim of its own success, but we cannot possibly see human beings as objects of cost not value; nor can doctors ethically see illness as a commercial "resource".

Automatic dishwasher stacker and unloader. My kids abandon pots all over the house and hope that by devine intervention, pots will gather themselves up and miraculously load themselves into the dishwasher, refill salt and rinse aid, pop in a tablet and press start.
