New school year, new rules

We seem to have come to an agreement whereby I will walk with my daughter to school each morning. Benefits: I can make sure she goes to school with everything she needs and not have to be rushing in later with forgotten books, PE kit, etc. It also encourages me to walk 10 mins further to my office instead of working from home. I seem to remember the exact same arrangement being rejected out of hand when I suggested it two years ago, but hey ho 🙂

Mind you, this is for morning walks only. I am still strictly forbidden from waiting at the school gate in the afternoon, or walking back home with her after Dance Club (unless none of her friends are around).

Our morning walk lasts 15 mins and involves holding hands all the way and talking about whatever random topic has entered her mind overnight. At the school gate I get a nice big hug to send me on my way ☺ Not many mums of 15 year olds are so lucky. I guess the after school rule is so I don't make anyone else jealous 🤗

It reminds me of an incident some 10 years ago with a 10 year-old I was asked to collect from school and accompany to where his parents were. A few yards from the school, after I realised said child was lagging somewhat, I turned and a plaintive voice said, 'Grandad, would you mind pretending that you're not with me?'

I suppressed the laugh, which threatened to make the situation worse and walked on trying to keep an eye on my charge surreptitiously. Enjoy them while they're young: the young man who takes me out for breakfast occasionally is delightful in a very different way.

@FreddieUK You have to take whatever they offer. We are coming near to the second anniversary of adoption. Fortunately for us, just having parents is still a pleasant novelty for our girl 😊

@MommyLucy Hugging is not always so easy for the coolest teenagers. I am exceptionally lucky ☺

@SunshineGirl I get hugs from Josh and Emily so I'm lucky too! 😌😌😌

@MommyLucy You are blessed with super children 😌😌😌

If the walk home passed by an ice cream shop, would that change anything? As it is, a teen allowing herself to be seen in public with mom is a big win.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@joe438 Possibly! Decoding the teenage mind is never easy, but when she is minded to be affectionate it is the best feeling ever 😊

That sounds lovely.

Is she likely to be forgetting her indoor PE footwear this year?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@GkB01 Not while I am around!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@SunshineGirl Does that mean she'll wear them rather than going barefoot?
