Definitely.
Apart from the immediate benefit of the ban it will also teach children that there are many places or situations, not only in school, where portable telephones ought be or must be turned off. In certain cases they must be left in secure holdings before entering the room or commencing the activity.
We should not be too hard on the children by blaming them entirely. They respond to peer-pressure but are also only copying what they see so many adults doing, which is allowing themselves to be enslaved by the instruments.
(Mine has been switched off all day. It still is - but I came on here only after a day doing other things. I was away over Easter, and though I had it with me, I didn't use my 'phone once. )

I think they should be banned altogether, along with social media with its stupid algorithms and infinite scrolling. I believe it's doing massive harm both to the individual and to society as a whole. And the worst of it is, there's little or no meaningful communication on social media. People are more isolated and society is becoming more atomised than ever.

@SeekingConnection The irony of complaining about people using social media on a social media site 🤣🤣🤣

@Zaphod42 😂
Aren’t they usually? At my daughter’s school they get handed in till the end of the day.

I didn't know there were schools that allowed this.

Yes. They should be turned off and locked in their lockers or left in their vehicles or at home. Person-to-person communication with someone in the same room should be done the old-fashioned way.

I believe most schools don't allow students to have their phones on during class.

Don’t look at me.. I’m still protesting the removal of the cane….
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout the cane? What is this 1950?
I'm surprised they're allowed. I didn't think they were.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
Do they even make calculators that aren’t an app anymore? 🤔
