No, not unless there is a really good reason, like the teacher feeling in physical danger.

How would you feel if you were routinely monitored in your workplace like this? It breaks down trust and respect.
Sharon · F
@SunshineGirl It would help protect the children too.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Sharon If a teacher poses a credible danger to children they should not be in the classroom, or the school, in the first place.
Sharon · F
@SunshineGirl Cameras will help determine whether a teacher poses a danger.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Sharon Why stop there? Let's have a surveillance camera in every private home.
Sharon · F
@SunshineGirl Children tend to be removed from their families if there's any suspicion they're being abused.
rob19 · M
@SunshineGirl How would you feel if you were repeatedly abused by a teacher and nobody believed you?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@rob19 That would indeed be a dreadful circumstance. However, contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of child abuse occurs in or close to the home, not in a school. I say this as the wife of a paediatric nurse of 17 years standing who daily has to deal with the consequences.
rob19 · M
@SunshineGirl Where the majority of abuse occurs is irrelevant to those boys and girls being abused by pervert teachers of either sex. At least girls stand a chance of being believed when then report the abuse but no one cares what happens to boys.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@rob19 And you have evidence of this, do you?
rob19 · M
@SunshineGirl Yes, I was one of their victims but I wasn't believed, probably because I was a boy.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@rob19 I am sorry for your trauma and pain. But please do not project a deviant experience to the whole of the teaching profession. A lot of kids at my daughter's school would be much safer being cared for fulltime at school than in their chaotic homes.
rob19 · M
@SunshineGirl I'm not projecting my experience on all teachers but children need to be protected from abusive teachers - even if they are only boys.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SunshineGirl yes so lets homeschool all kids and eliminate the liberal teacher from the equation.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@rob19 I don't know when you went to school, but safeguarding and listening to children is a whole lot better than when I was at school in the 1990s.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MasterLee Or let's just keep politics out of childhood education.
rob19 · M
@SunshineGirl It might be better but there's still a lot of room for improvement. The headteacher of a nearby school left a few months ago following an allegation of impropriety. A teacher at another school in a nearby town is now under suspicion. Cameras could provide valuable evidence to help confirm or deny the allegations.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SunshineGirl I agree. That was my point exactly.
