I haven鈥檛 been in school for a decade yet I still have nightmares about it 馃槶

I鈥檓 a high school drop out (no regrets, I got my GED a year before my peers even graduated)

I hate it so much. I struggled with my mental health a lot as a kid/teen. I had an abusive home, Autism, 邪锌芯谐械xi邪, and PTSD/OCD (recent diagnoses, so I was struggling without knowing my issue).

This made me miss a lot of school because I鈥檓 an agoraphobe. I would go once a week or two weeks without showing up to class. I only showed up to take tests, turn in work, and collect my new work. At the time they didn鈥檛 let you do remote school unless you had a physical condition that bound you to home. Mental health issues didn鈥檛 count.

In my dreams, I鈥檓 filled with the anxiety and dread of having to come up with another excuse to miss school. The arguing with my mom about why I didn鈥檛 want to go. Feeling embarrassed to show up on the days I actually attended. 馃槨 I should have dropped out at 16 instead of 17.

graduated college in 1989........ still have the dreams about realizing at the end of the semester that i had missed all the classes and exams and wont be able to graduate. i have dreams about not being able to find my classes. wonder when they will ever stop. also have other recurring dreams.

Try to stay in the present. A therapist helped me with that like 10 years ago but if told him I was upset with my mom about the past then I鈥檇 feel depressed abd he said how is sitting there going round and round with mom in the past helping your present mental health???

@MorbidCynic sorry I missed that part yikes! Dreams can reflect some reality tho I don鈥檛 remember what they used to say about them specific

I made it through but I hated it. I just wanted it over with.

Not much I can offer as advice. When you have those dreams, and you wake up, do you still feel like you're there, or do you realize it was just a dream?

@MorbidCynic Something I looked up due to my own trauma is to look around your bedroom, and identify items that you own that prove you're not there anymore.

@LordShadowfire that鈥檚 like a ground technique

@Catzgano It is. It also works on flashback you have while you're awake. The way it works is, when you have a nightmare or flashback, you might be consciously aware that it's not real, but your subconscious still thinks it is. You have to convince your deepest self that you're not in that bad place. Looking at your most cherished possessions that you keep in your bedroom can help.
