Not for my school. We had uniforms for everything.
Stubborn17 · 18-21, F
@OliRos I'm not opposed to school uniforms
OliRos · 18-21, F
@Stubborn17 No, me neither.
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@Stubborn17 Does your school have dress requirements?

@Lynda70 That's pretty tasteless, but I don't know you, maybe you are. 🤷‍♀️
Lynda70 · F
@OliRos To be fair, considering the way some UK schools are run, I suppose I am being a bit unfair to Hitler.

I've definitely become more reactionary as I've got older. In my teens I hated that rigidity but hindsight is a wonderful thing ;-)

@ArtieKat I bet you looked cute in a gymslip.

@ArtieKat ... when it's about girls, I presume? 😏

@helenS In my reply I did actually mean in general

@ArtieKat we all understand, just messing around with you 😊

I asked bing for some positive points on having a school uniform. Have to say it's hard to argue a few of the points

Wearing a school uniform has several positive aspects ¹:

1. Encourages discipline and sets clearly defined rules.
2. Promotes comradery and fosters a sense of community.
3. Makes it easier for students to get ready in the morning.
4. Creates cohesion and reduces the potential for bullying.
5. Improves study ethic.
6. Increases safety.
7. Creates a fairer dress code.
8. Removes peer pressure.
9. Prepares students for the outside world.
10. Makes mornings easier for students and parents.
11. Reduces clothing-related peer pressure.
12. Creates uniformity between socioeconomic classes within a school district.
13. Costs less than traditional youth clothing.
14. Emphasizes discipline.
15. Saves time in the morning.
16. Develops an affinity with learning.
17. Develops a sense of professionalism.
18. Allows uniforms to be handed down.

I'll comment on some of those when I've got more time - unless you want to send me a PM to reply to?

@Lynda70 Fucking hell...
OliRos · 18-21, F
@Stubborn17 All very sensible.
Stubborn17 · 18-21, F
@OliRos you think so
OliRos · 18-21, F
@Stubborn17 🤗 Yes, to be honest. Though I didn't always agree when I had to wear uniform all day, every day at school.
ArtieKat · M
@OliRos Ain't hindsight wonderful, Olivia? 😁
OliRos · 18-21, F
@ArtieKat I know the hinds you like the sight of.
ArtieKat · M
@OliRos Yes, deer! ❤️

@Stubborn17
1. Encourages discipline and sets clearly defined rules.
Yeah, right.
13. Costs less than traditional youth clothing.
Not in the UK it doesn't, at least of news reports of school clothing costs are to be believed.
7. Creates a fairer dress code.
8. Removes peer pressure.
Oh yes, none of the students will be able to tell which child comes from a five bedroom house with highly paid parents and which one lives in mould infested temporary accommodation with their unemployed single mother and wears their older siblings patched cast offs.
Lynda70 · F
@ninalanyon Schools claim uniforms prevent poorer children being bullied or feel left out if their parents can't afford the latest. Instead, poorer children are bullied by teachers and isolated from their peers if their parents can't afford the over priced uniform - available exclusively from the school's "official suppliers" who pays a large bribe ("commission") for that privilege.

The average price of a uniform for secondary school is in the region of £700. About £300 seems to be average for primary school.

Usual banter between @OliRos and me. :-)
OliRos · 18-21, F
@MissBrittany 🤗 Thank you for leaping to my defence. @ArtieKat is an old friend (and I do mean old) and we have to excuse him his occasional lapse of taste.

btw I can be quite animalistic in some circumstances.
