Longer school days are not ideal for any child, but if there are problems with recruitment then no choice but to be flexible. Should help to save energy too.

I can see it being harder for some families. Nor helping the teachers much because they will still have the load of lesson-preparations and homework marking. I suppose they could do that in the school buildings on those off-days, though, as if in offices, as they'd be free of distractions and time-tables.
It might make time-tabling difficult too.

School is sometimes the only escape kids have from being abused at home. The lock downs gave many a taste of what happens when kids are put under their parents guidence; brainwashing, beaten, molested, etc...

The knock-on effect on parents and child-care responsibilities will make this unworkable. Ridiculous idea.
Perhaps reducing the amount of bullshit paperwork that teachers have to do might help.

i don't see how shuffling the hours is going to make that much difference. it sounds very nearly like arranging deck chairs on the titanic.
sadly it means some kids will only eat 4 days a week. 💘 bc of their parents who are themselves ungrown children.

@lovelywarpedlemon That is a very valid point. I think they intend on having a backpack program (with food) for students economically vulnerable. I just hope they get to eat it before other family members do. Sad indeed.

Fire the teachers. Hire teachers who want to do their job teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic 5 days a week.
