Of course they're real people . . they're Oompa Loompas

Wnen I was at school I longed for a decent role in one of our end of term productions. But partly because I was very short I kept getting overlooked . . literally 😕 In my final year the Christmas show was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I was asked to choreograph a dance routine for the Oompa Loompas, who were being played by year 6s. I was also allowed to dress up and dance myself because 10 year old girls were about the same height as me 🙂

Shame. I had some happy times acting in school plays.

@MartinII Which were your favourites?

@SunshineGirl My best performance was as the Very Old Cardinal in Brecht’s Galileo Galilei. He has one scene, in which he laments the fact that his world has been destroyed by Galileo’s discoveries. I enjoyed several other plays for different reasons!

@MartinII Very impressive!

@SunshineGirl That’s kind of you. A few years earlier, I played a very small part in Macbeth. One rehearsal was delayed because the sixth former playing Macbeth was late. He eventually arrived, looking as if he’d happily murder anyone who got in his way. He had just been caned for smoking!
