Well, I have experience with all three options -- public, private, and home schooling. I was bed ridden for four years so home schooled by my mother. Fortunately, she was a public school teacher when she wasn't caring for me. When I went back to school, I was about two years ahead of everyone academically and woefully behind in social activities with peers. We put my oldest son in private middle school because they were having difficulties at the public school. He wound up becoming involved in drugs and dropped out of high school. We and other parents became more involved with the public schools, helped turned them around, and youngest went only to public schools including college. Has had a very successful career.

The primary problem with public schools is not the red herrings over curriculum. It is underfunding and lack of discipline. The class sizes are too big, too many of the kids come to school lacking any discipline, and teachers have to spend all their time on discipline rather than teaching. And the only time most parents are involved is when they come for disciplinary hearings or to complain about the "atheistic, communistic" curriculum.

@dancingtongue I know it's rediclous class size wise we have 28 students in our room and the teacher I work with would be alone if I wasn't student teaching with her this term she was fall term. My son is in 1st grade his class at his school has 12 students and 2 teachers
