That is the Old Testament. This is a "should you do" law without giving it the thumbs up at all.
Ancient nomadic cultures like this one aren't even comparable to today's society, even some cultures of today are hard to understand for Westerners.
Christ died on the cross, taking the punishment we deserve for our sin, so that all who trust in him can be spared from eternal damnation and get eternal life instead. That will always be relevant.
