I used to be a strong christian, but then an obese neckbeard referred to God as a "sky daddy" and now my faith has been shaken

What do I do? :( He discovered his first science encylopedia and now he thinks he knows all and is responsible for all scientific discoveries, referring to knowledge real scientists have gained as "we now know" as if he had something to do with it :(

That's because 'god' is a man-made concept and 'god' is usually referred to by Xtians as a male form, which is theoretically impossible as 'god' is not a human but a concept to explain all that humans don't understand about the universe we live in.

Religion(s) are cults basically. Cults focused on money (as they're commercial businesses) and control (as they are based on fear-mongering).

Look at Renee Bach or Paula White just as two examples.

Once something becomes a religion anything can be justified in it's name and non-believers are likened to being devil worshippers and witches.

It sounds like he has a Faith in Science.
He will accept anything from a science book without really understanding the concepts but rather point his finger at the book and say “well it’s in here”.
Get to know your Holy Bible and a knowledge of science doesn’t hurt.

To me you never had faith in the first place since it was so easily shaken.

They generally say magical sky Daddy!

Not magical but supernatural, extraterrestrial, God our Father is an entity that can do what man only dreams of. And actually he is the ultimate scientist - he can create, he can give life, he he can destroy that which he created. The universe's and space is his and time has no hold on him.

Even scientists now say time doesn't exist!

Even science now says everything is made out of energy even that which appears and feels like it's solid matter.

And like energy which science says was not created and cannot be destroyed but can change forms _ our Father was not created, nor can he be destroyed, but he can change forms..... He is like living energy with the ability to give life _ to form matter _ to form those who are called angels, to earthlings, to what scientist cannot see and they can only see five percent of this universe and have no idea what lies beyond it.

Magical it's a good word but supernatural is better.

Ask Jesus Christ to give you faith… And pray about it daily
miklyn86 · 36-40, M
@InHeaven that is certainly the best answer here and I agree with it wholeheartedly
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Yeah then I listen to a podcast by some guys like James Tour or Steven Meyer. John Lennox etc and I have a belly laugh at the atheists' brain dead answer to how we came into being.
Adstar · 56-60, M
People who don't want to believe in God grasp at any information they hear that tells them there is no God.. If you Love the truth no amount of deception will move you from it..
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
I’m going to steal the phrase “obese neckbeard”.

Hope you resolve your crisis of faith.
Aami1 · 26-30, F
@luckranger71 It was actually sarcastic haha. I dont know why atheists think distilling thousands of years of religious thought on something hundreds of millions believe in to "sky daddy" is some sort of win haha.

Sky daddy shouldn't be thought a derrogatory term. Sky is easily thought 'elsewhere' and Abrahamic faiths do assign 'father' to God. I personally feel that 'magic alien' is the better, more precise term.
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
@SW-User Magic Alien = Sky Fairy
Djc58 · 56-60, M
Secularists are always spouting ignorance with an air of "knowing" when they don't really know anything.

Don't let it bother you.
@Djc58 I wouldn't say this has much to do with secularists, but fundamentalist atheists are the main force behind it
Convivial · 26-30, F
It's up to you what you believe... Leaving your friend out of it for a moment, science, once agree upon by peers, is based on facts though...

Believing in a more higher being than us takes faith

We hope the man upstairs won't shut the power off.
I don't know of a sky daddy.

Your belief or non-belief in a higher power is your own. It's your answer, your journey, no one else's.
I think he's also the one that should be demonstrating this kind of smug sarcasm
