We are all born sinners, but it is how we act is what defines us.

As you can tell from the title, You might think that it isn't true. I believe that we are all born to sin but what matters most is how you react to it and how you stay true to your faith and devotion to god. The reason why I'm writing this now at this very moment is for two reasons: The first being is I've relapsed after three weeks of not committing that sin. As you can imagine, the amount I've guilt I've been feeling is unbearable so writing will probs help. and number two is that I'm feeling like a piece of blob. To elaborate, I basically am feeling as if I'm a piece of nothing who is living at this very moment (not in a bad or negative way but in a "what am I doing with my life" and "I need to get my stuff together" way. Anyways please give me advice on how to avoid having temptations to commit a sin and how to refrain from it!! Well appreciated :)

I think you know how to remove temptation from your life. If the temptation comes in the form of a person, never see that person again. If drugs or alcohol are the problem, attend meetings. Just keep working at it. God knows you aren't perfect! Yes! He KNOWS that. And He knows you will stumble now and then.

God is practically begging us to ALLOW Him to forgive us. But first, you have to forgive yourself.

And then, repent of your sin. In other words, tell God with soul shaking sincerity that you are sorry...and then resolve to do THAT sin no more.

Oh, you say, I am weak...and I will do it again...I just know it!

Know also that God will forgive you 70 times 7, or even MORE because He just LOVES you!!!

Get it?

There is no easy way to avoid temptation - it will come looking for you. To avoid falling into it? Recognize that sin is dangerous, deceptive. It always promises but never delivers.
When you do successfully resist it? Rejoice in that victory! Thank God for the freedom you gain. Cherish that joy, feel it. Exult in it.
And remember: God forgives you. When He does, accept it. Don't let guilt overwhelm you. You've repented, He's forgiven. It's over. Go on your way rejoicing in His love for you.

Bollocks !
If god had spent a moment and “created” one little fence, there wouldn’t be any sin.
Besides, didn’t we already get a “get out of jail free” card a couple of thousand years ago ?

You are someone because God loves you.. His Atonement covers your sins and He promises to forgt your sins and never remember them forever more.. If you believe jesus and trust in His atonement you are in the right place with God.. Yes resist sin as best as you can.. But never doubt your positon as an adopted and loved Daughter of the Holy Father..

Try and spend more time thinking of the good things in life.. The good Truth of His Word..

(Philippians 4:7-8) "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. {8} Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Maybe give up the religious faith instead of the sin
summalovin · 18-21, F
@StevetheSleeve nah i completely disagree with you
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
@summalovin To be fair, if the sin is killing people, yeah stop that

One way to avoid temptation is simply to put oneself in a situation where you can't act on it. For instance someone who is tempted to eat to many cakes should simply avoid cafes. Those tempted to drink to excess should avoid friends who insist on going to pubs.

Talking about it to someone, no necessarily on SW, can also help.
summalovin · 18-21, F
@ninalanyon this actually might be the best advice I've gotten, thank you. genuinely
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@summalovin Glad to help. I hope it all works out well for you.

Speak for yourself.
summalovin · 18-21, F
@ninalanyon u good?
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@summalovin I'm reasonably good. :-) I'm sure I've done the odd slightly bad thing and I have some regrets. But most of my regrets are of things not done or not said.
RedBaron · M
Don’t be so hard on yourself.

But maybe there’s a connection between you feeling like you’re worthless and all the stuff about an imaginary, all-knowing, all-powerful father figure sitting somewhere in the sky.

Did your parents abuse you as a child?
Born sick and ordered to get well. What is the reward? Eternity in a celestial North Korea. Failing means you’re doomed to unending torture and pain.

Sounds like a loving god.

That surely depends on which sin you have in mind, assuming that it really is a sin that is.
summalovin · 18-21, F
@ninalanyon its not bad, im just extremely articulate with my actions and behavior

Are you a serial killer, and it's been 3 weeks since your last victim?

@ninalanyon If you are familiar with fundamentalist theology, you understand that the "born sinners" is deemed a statement of fact, not hearless or cruel, but a given condition of all humanity on earth.
Since my original comment, there has been shown empathy and understanding, but at the first - I stand by my statement.

@daydeeo
If you are familiar with fundamentalist theology, you understand that the "born sinners" is deemed a statement of fact,
Perhaps so but most people on SW are quite definitely and clearly not part of that group. Leading with a general statement that many here find offensive instead of the specific and personal problem is at best a tactical error. But many of us here have been on the receiving end of fundamentalist rhetoric and reacted accordingly.

What we should have done of course was to rise above it instead of just reacting. :-(
daydeeo · 61-69, M
@ninalanyon Of course. And, of course, much easier said than done.😔
