I look at religion in a broad sense as meaning a strict set of principles adhered to and repetition. Everyone is religious in this basic sense. As far as organized religion I find Shinto to be the most interesting only because it's evolution is relatively recent. It existed in Japanese culture for centuries before it had to take on the name Shintoism due to the arrival of Buddhism. Prior to that it was ritualistic festivals during planting and harvesting seasons in which various interchangeable gods were celebrated. Their idea of gods is perhaps more relatable to our word spirits. Then the Japanese royal family wrote rescripts for instruction of Japanese youth. Basically they thought they were superior and could take over the world. After intense bombing of Japan, including but not limited to Hiroshima and Nagasaki the people of Japan pretty much abandoned religion as represented by Shintoism and Buddhism overnight, although they, especially Shintoism is such a part of the Japanese culture that they hardly notice it.
It reminds me of science.

I’ve read a few books on Buddhism, it intrigues me but I’m probably not mentally ready to absorb a lot of those concepts.
Hinduism is interesting because it is very scientific at the root level. Also, you learn about a new god everyday!

Unitarianism. Some of my heretical ideas are close to theirs. Buddhism, I love the wisdom of the Dalai Lama as found in "The Book of Joy."

I like egyptian and Greek mythologies. Their religion didn't require them to recruit others. Which is why it's not prevalent today

I'm fascinated by Hinduism and Buddhism too. Also Taoism.

My former religion of Christianity never ceases to be a source of entertainment to me now. I think it's mostly because I have a hard time believing I took it seriously.
BibleData · M
@LordShadowfire If I may ask, why do think you did take it seriously and why is that no longer the case?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@BibleData I took it seriously as a result of some inadvertent trickery by a cousin of mine. He talked me through a favorite prayer of his, and he was so excited, he was literally exuding joy. As in, so hard that I could feel it halfway across town. I assumed that was God embracing me.
What caused me to not take it as seriously was reading the Bible clear through, cover to cover. I did it three times.
